MDJunction to me

peasha"This has been one of the most supportive places I have ever been. I found MDJ by mistaking looking for drs to help me with my many health issues and since that day over a year ago I have found a tight nit little family that keeps me going when the times are tough and offers me a place of retreat to share my successes and failures with others. I get to see the humor and seriousness of what I experience as well as the resources to learn about my health conditions. Thanks MDJ" (peasha)

Are there any vitamin supplaments that I can take that might help my fibro? The meds I am on are blood pressure, fluid, diabetis, potassium, prozac 80mg, and I am on day 5 of the starter back of savella. Are there any vitamins or supplaments that I can take that might help??

Hi! MSM w/ glucosamine and chondrointin, sam-e, magnesium(a maxi sorb formula), CoQ10. There are tons of them you can take as well as herbal teas that are great for helping! I have a prescription for natural healing book my mother-in-law bought me for xmas and it has been a great help with my fibromyalgia!

The rheumy I seen recommended Vit d 5000 IU daily and magnesium 400 mg daily. But check with your Dr, he may want to check your Vit D levels before putting you on it.

There are tons of them out there for FM, but just like with prescription drugs, some may work for you some may not,,,,it's another trial and error thing!!!!!!!

Hope you find some that will work for you.

And welcome to our group, hope you'll enjoy yourself and make lots of new and caring friends while with us!!!!!

Hi Mamma!

I take some supplements too. But I did a drug interaction thing online at drugdigest.com or drug.com and they should not all be taken with some meds. I would look up what you think you might want to try and do this drug interaction thing and talk to your dr about what things you are thinking about taking. Taken with some meds, they can be dangerous just as meds can be.

Hugs,

Debbie

When you are googling...ignore any supplements with fibro in the name...they're just overpriced ripoffs. "Proprietory blends" of the same vitamins you can get at the drug store that they charge 10x as much for because they're selling you a "cure". Also ignore anything that is connected to Dr Teitelbaum. He runs those Fibro & Fatigue centers that don't take insurance. One of our members owed them $10,000 after one month!!

Ask to have your vitamin D levels checked. Most North Americans are deficient...it's an epidemic.

I take:

Centrum silver --because it's the cheapest way to get eye vitamins.

Calcium/magnesium/Vitamin D in one pill. I take two a day which is why I was shocked to learn I was still deficient in vitamin D.

Vitamin D -- 2000ius

Folic Acid -- for hair loss. Not working yet.

Salmon Oil -- 2000ius

CoQ10/Omega 3 fish oil/vitamin E --I read that most doctors who take supplements take CoQ10

Melatonin 6-9 mg a night ... for sleep

It seems like every week I'm running out of something...I think I spend more on supplements than I do on medicines.

You should still run them by your dr or pharmacist, I used those online things. www.drugdigest.com is good and the one I use the most but it did miss two major interactions so now I dont think I can trust the online sites anymore I will have to call them in if I am unsure. The dr will be able to give you a list of what are good vitamins/suppliments and you will then know they are safe with your current meds and conditions. For example I cant take Melatonin because I have Bipolar Disorder with Psychosis, I am stable now and have been for close to a year but Melatonin can induce Psychosis. Those are the types of things your dr will know and be able to tell you. Good Luck! Wink
I suffer from Rapid Progressive MS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Epilepsy, Migraines, Neuropathy, IBS, Narcolepsy, Arrythmia, Arthritis and too much more complete list on profile.

"Just because we have the right to disagree with a person, does NOT give us the right to disrespect that person."

I'm not currently active due to many personal and medical issues. I will not be participating in MDJ for awhile, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone. I hope everyone is well and I appreciate all of the thoughts, kind words and messages. I have tried to respond as much as possible and apologize if I have not gotten back to everyone. Love & Hugs, Stacey

Oh and some things you kind of have to figure out on your own...two of my medications said not to take them with antacids containing magnesium. OK, so I don't take them with tums or rolaids...but I never even thought about not taking them with my magnesium/calcium/vitamin D supplements. So my blood pressure was completely out of whack, all over the place even when I took it before I got out of bed in the morning. Then I put two & two together and figured it out. Now my blood pressure tends to be on the low side.
