Well in 1996 at the age of 26 i got chickenpox really bad. Then again in 1997 and 1998. In 1997 I was working at a bank that was robbed. I would say after this I was no longer the same person. In 2005 I had a nervous breakdown and did not work for 1-1/2 yrs and was dx with hypothyroidism. I was dx with fm in July 2008.

I am interested to know if anyone else has had chickenpox as an adult?

I have started Lyrica........works ok....i feel it when i dont take tho.

I got the chickenpox when I was 20. I went to the beach the day after I broke out. The salt water made them heal fast. I was better in about 3 or 4 days. I also had a nervous breakdown when I was in my late 20's.

I was in a bad accident in 1986 and my husband died. I think that 'began' my symptoms. I'd had some migraines before then but they really increased after that & I started noticing that if I was really tired or stressed, the old physical injuries would re-emerge. Then 10 years later, in a 6 month period, I was hit in the head with a pager thrown overhand by a very angry meth addict at work, filed a worker's comp suit against the company I worked for, got in another car accident, and got fired from the job (retaliation, which we proved in court). In 2001 I had new symptoms when my Dad died and both my mothers-in-law died within 6 months. I had a nervous breakdown right after that when my then-husband got in a minor fender bender...PTSD back full on, the worst I'd had since the first big wreck. I got rear-ended shortly after and the MD I saw couldn't figure out why I hurt so much from such a minor collision and treated me like I was trying to rip the insurance company off...even though I was being treated at MY HMO. Then I had another incident at work involving carpet glue fumes, and then burnt my hands badly with undiluted bleach. The worst though started this spring when my baby sister (OK she was 46) was diagnosed with lung cancer and died 3 weeks later. I emailed my doctor about some strange pains I was having--the shooting pains down my arms & legs--and she emailed me back that she'd thought for quite some time I might have fibro...thanks for waiting to tell me, Doc!

I'm also peri/menopausal (age 51) and have no spleen from the first big wreck. I was used to doctors saying "oh, you're just perimenopausal" (really? Ever since I was 35?) now it's "it's JUST your fibro"...

My fibro symptoms progressed over many years. I experienced trouble focusing in high school, developed IBS and depression after the birth of my son (I had a miserable pregnancy), but the severe pain and fatigue started after a very stressful situation at home. I also had a slight breakdown and a few anxiety attacks during that time period. I never had any kind of accident and was not injured in any way.

I was in two major accidents and one minor accident. The first accident left my spine twisted from T-11 to S-5. I ended up with a head injury also, out cold for 45 minutes.. The second one was minor and I just hit another spot on my head. The third one, the car fared better than me. Seat belt injury they called it. I dislodged my first rib on the left, I dislodged my S-5 in my back, I had a shoulder separation on the left. Took them four years to find the separation. The dr kept sending me to PT and it didn't help one bit. Finally went to a chiropractor and explained that my shoulder was hurting too. He did some checking, did some manipulating and we heard a crack pop and I've never had any pain there since. I went from 1998 to 2002 not being able to lift my arm above my waist.

I think alot of what happens to us when we are in our early years of life will effect us later on. Then again I am almost 100% certain that my mother had fibro too. Too many of the symptoms I have, she also had.

May your troubles be less, Your blessings be more. And nothing but happiness come through your door!
