thats the problem know one knows what causes this and thats why treatment is so hard to get right and why again so many dont beleive in it me either untill I had no choice I just can't rap my brain around all these problems being from one thing so us who still know we have this but yet think their missing something this is why the medical community is having problems then of course the unqaulified doctors who aare not sure whats wrong diagnose fibro so then its being abused, its easier to say I have ra or thyroid problems but you say fibro and eyes are rolling

Hi Drangonfly,

Enough research has been done to support those conclusions. And I've read about it in many FM books now from different docs.

I'm not sure about the thyroid or the RA though. With all the testing we go through, many will find that they need help in these areas, and that doesn't necessarily make them related to FM.

The things that you don't have on the list that should be also mentioned are EBV/Mono and physical or emotional trauma or even abuse. Also, I read that 75% of FM sufferers have Lyme.

Wow...Is that right? 75% of fibro sufferers have Lyme. If that's an accurate percentage, it's staggering.

I've been tested for Lyme's multiple times... I've had my thyroid tested... I've been tested for Arthritis... Many times... so I guess I can say I definitely have Fibro... Until someone else finds something else to blame it on...

I may have fibromyalgia, but fibromyalgia is not me.

I thought it was because we don't produce enough dopamine in are body.Dopamine plays a key role in the nervous system. It helps with pain, the same with serotonin. Thats how are bodies naturally reduce the pain. When you don't have enough dopamine your pain preception is off then you feel every ache and every pain.Your nervous system doesn't know what do when you lack dopamine. Lack of dopamine also causes restless legs.

I don't know I guess its just one theory. With all this technology you think they could figure it out.

I think the original post was not what causes FM as that is unknown and there are many theories; Dopamine or lack of restful sleep, calcium deposits, lack of magnesium, genetics, diet, stress, etc. The list goes on and on.

I was only addressing the original post which was talking about what triggers FM.

If you do a search on Lyme and Fibromyalgia together you can see how similiar they are. Probably a lot of mis-diagnosis out there.

I was just saying that the lack of dopamine can trigger fibro. Which is one on going study. Which I'm sure you know, I wasn't discounting anything you had posted. I was just talking about a theory.

When my mother was originally diagnosed, which by the way she diagnosed herself and received confirmation from a doctor in atlanta as the small down docs of rural georgia had no idea what was going on.

Keep in mind this was in the early 90's.

We were told that the theories at the time were viral/bacterial infection, trauma(emotional or physical), and strangely enough prolonged dental surgery.

She had FMS and CFIDS. She'd experienced all three before her full blown onset.

I've never had lyme disease or arthritis or really anything out of the ordinary. When I was six I contracted toxic shock syndrome as a secondary infection from chicken pox. But other than that I've been healthy.

My onset was after two years of extreme mental and physical stress. My mother died suddenly, she had a diabetic ulcer and was on several high dosage medications. She took her medicines, took a shower, and then because of short term memory, took all of her medicines again. Her heart couldn't take it.

I was still experiencing post partum depression with my son.

Then a hard pregnancy, then my other half left with no warning. We'd been fighting for a while but he said nothing, just gone. We were separated for 10mths, during which my son was diagnosed with ODD/ADHD, abandonment disorder, and attachment disorder.

And I had prolonged dental surgery to remove all of my teeth due to them seriously just falling apart. They couldn't explain to me why my teeth did this.

My friend once told me that we have all the diseases in our body, whether or not they actually do anything is the luck of the draw. Like the people who can smoke three packs a day their entire life and not get so much as a cough, but people like my great gmother die from cancer and never so much as picked up a cigarette.

Whether that's true or not, can't help but feel like we got the short straw.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your mom. It sounds like you have been though alot. I do agree with your friend I have always thought that.

I have worked with elderly peolpe that were in the late 90's. They would tell me that they drank and smoked till they were in there 70's. Not a thing was wrong with them except maybe getting a cold. I also had family that died from lung cancer. My great great grandmother never even thought about smoking and she had cancer.

Truma does take its toll on the body emotionally and phsycially that i do believe.

Hay, I'll take one of those lattes to go.
