I used to take melatonin as a sleep aid and I found that it worked very well. I used it for about a year and then it stopped helping me. I hear alot of people I work with use it and love it.. I wish it still worked for me.....Good luck!

I take Vitamin B-2 for headaches and migraines. My neurologist suggested it. He told me that it wouldn't get rid of them completely, but would calm them down. He was right, it seems to help. I had to purchase online because I couldn't find it in the stores. My hubby took me all over the place looking for it and never did.

Also, I take Magnesium Glycinate. My Holistic Medicine doctor got me started on it. Supposedly, the 'Glycinate' dissolves and digests best in the body. I'm not sure if she's right. I just took her word for it. I've never noticed any difference with taking the Magnesium. I just continue to do so, because she thinks I need it. Guess I'm trusting my doctors. Huh?!

I've not heard that Magnesium helps with migraines. But if your neurologist says so, well then... it must.

I do know that Magnesium Oxide is different than Magnesium Glycinate. That's what my Holistic Medicine doctor said. Cause I had asked her. I named three or four different Magnesiums, and none were the same.

I guess a person can test their magnesium level. It's a test that the doctor does. They scrape a little of your tongue and send it in. My insurance doesn't pay for it. Which is fine. That's one test that sounded painful enough that I didn't want it!

There are SO many types of Vitamins and Supplements. I know that even when searching for the B-2, the pharmacy helpers tried to give me B-12 and that's not the same either.

I have found 5-HTP to be a life-saver for me. I have been on it (3-4 100mg caps daily) for almost 3 years. 2 months after I began taking it, I was able to come off several pain medications, including Oxycontin. Before I began taking it, I hurt constantly. I had forgotten what it felt like not to hurt. Now, I often have several hours each day that I am relatively pain-free. Before I began taking 5-HTP, I was developing IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Shortly, after starting this supplement, this problem completely cleared up. I really think that 5-HTP has helped my pain more than my sleep, but it is definitely at the top of my list of necessary supplements. I have suffered no noticeable side effects. I understand many of you are not able to take this supplement, but it has helped me so much!

I also take Malic Acid (1-2 caps) daily. I'm not really sure how this helps, but I seem to function better when I take it than when I don't. It is a very subtle effect, but it is still there. In some of my research, it was stated that taking Malic Acid along with Magnesium can be beneficial to some fibro patients I guess that means me!

I also have been taking Melatonin 3mg (3 nightly) for over a year. In the beginning it seemed to help some with my sleep, but now doesn't appear to be working well. I've decreased to 2 tabs nightly, and can't tell any difference. I have tried almost everything for sleep over several years (some things work for a while, and some didn't work at all), but have finally had to go back to Zanaflex to get any sleep. It has been the only drug to consistently help me to sleep. I quit taking it for a while because, according to research, it prevents you from going into a restful sleep stage and has some "not-so-nice" side effects. Well, I think that this type sleep is better than none, and I haven't experienced any serious side effects from it so far.

Have any of you tried SAMe for pain? I've tried up to 5 tablets (on schedule) daily over several months, but still can't really tell if it helps any with my pain. (My research stated that it helps increase the production of endorphins, which are the body's natural pain blocking chemicals and are more powerful than morphine.) Maybe it just doesn't help with fibro pain.

Gentle Hugs,
Carla

i have gotten some relieve with malic acid, valeria, 5 HTP and B complex. What i am trying now thought is the Toxinout program from Drnatura.com. It releases all the toxins that are stored in the body and includes most of the vitamins that iam taking in their ingridients.

I am taking SAMe not because it is supposed to relieve joint pain, but because it is supposed to help your liver.

My blood tests just showed up with high enzymes in my liver again so I'm not sure it's working for that and I haven't had any pain relief, at least not that I've noticed.

I take folic acid and a fibro complete daily vitamin.

The one thing that I think is helping me is COQ10. I've noticed a big improvement in my cognitive function since I've been taking it (about 3 months).

Sleepwalking,

How much CoQ10 do you take daily? I've been having some problems with my thinking processes.

Gentle Hugs,
Carla
