I don't know what to think of my rheumatologist. She was very thorough. Asked me tons of questions, had me in all sorts of postions checking for pain, pressure points and such. Had a lot of blood work done. She told me that she thought I had FMS, but wanted to make sure it wasn't anything else with tehe blood work.I felt like she was vaguely dissintrested in me, but that may have been my own fear of being told that it was all in my head. My real problem was after the blood work came back. One of her nurses called me and confirmed her diagnoses. She called me in a prescription of amitriptyline, and told me to make an appointment to come back in in two months. That was it. the Doctor told me when I left her office to make an appointment to come back in a month. I got the feeling she was just giving me the amitriptyline just to be prescribing me something. I kinda felt like I was left hanging. Is this the normal way doctors do things?

They didn't say anything about about the blood work? I know my Rhumy. He knows my knee was swollen because of a baker's cysts and told me to come back in 4 months. For them it no hurry for us it like lets get it done now.

They are unbelieveable.

They told me that all the blood work came back negative. I could have told that, my PCP did all sorts of test in the past that all came back negative. I just felt like I got a the brush off. I have only seen this woman once, during the initial appointment. I don't know what to do, whether to wait it out and see if things improve or try to find someone else.

This is my third Rhumy. I wasn't happy with the first two. He is matter of fact. I like that. He was the one that really helped me with my disability.

Fibromomma- I'm not sure if you're going to a clinic full of rheumy's or not. But if you are, and if I were you- I might would consider checking out one other others. It's your right to have good care. You need to feel comfortable with your doctor.

My rheumatologist doesn't have a very good bedside manner. The office rotates visits between her and the nurse practioner, and I actually prefer seeing the nurse practioner. However, I have always felt well attended to and confident they know their stuff.

I think you should see how you feel after your next visit - Find another doctor if you don't feel comfortable.

My psych appointments last less than 15 minutes, which I found very odd. I thought I was going to lay down on a couch and talk for an hour.

You know, I did too. I went to my first psychiatrist appointment thinking I would lay out on the old leather sofa and tell him all of my problems. Boy was I surprised to find out that I only got 15 minutes. Mostly he was there to discuss my meds and if I thought they were working. How my life was at home. And of course------Are you going to harm yourself?

All of the discussing goes on with my counselor once a week. He and I talk about everything. He has taught me biofeedback and relaxation techniques.

Basically, the psychiatrist is for meds only. This is what I found out later.

I saw a rheumatologist once... then he told me to just stick with my primary care doc, that he didn't need to see me anymore. Honestly, I don't think that either of them have much of a clue about fibro. I think I'm going to have to find someone new... I have an appt with my primary next week, so we'll see how that goes.
