Has anyone gotten off an SSRI- I was on a small dose of lexapro- and had major hot flashes. I've been off it over a month now but I get about 10 major hot flashes a day. My head and face get really hot and I sweat terribly. At night I have the covers on and off because of this.

I've read withdrawal can cause them and even being on it I would have a hot flash about 3 hours after taking it but it would be just the one time.

Man it's horrible. Anyone else out there ever deal with it and if so how long. thanks

I know what you're talking about! My Dr. started me on a low dose of Lexapro, 10 mg, then upped it to 20 mg and I was sweating terribly! I decided (on my own) to go back to the 10 mgs and gradually increase the dose back to the 20 and when I did that I was sweating even worse. It seems to have gotten better but I still have a couple of flashes during the day, nothing at night. I did read that FM makes you more sensitive to tempurature changes - maybe the combination of both is making it worse???? Just a guess...just like everything else about FM - it's frustrating.

I was on it for over three years. At one point I was on the 20mgs but for the last 6 months only 5mgs. I then totally stopped about 5 weeks ago. The only thing I felt at that point was some tongue tingling for about 10 days- it was wierd but now these hot flashes are at least 6 or more. I'm not sure what it is from but thanks for your input-m

I get hot flashes but that's due to taking Tomaxafin for breast cancer. I take Peridin C for the hot flashes and that helps a lot. I didn't know hot flashes came with the fibro.

I have been off my lexapro for probably at least a month and my hot flashes finally went away. All I can say is if you are reducing an SSRI you've been on for a while take it slow. Don't go cold turkey. I went for months on a half a pill then months on a quarter pill and then a quarter pill every few days. I was on lexapro for over 3 years. I know longer get the sweats anymore/

Let's put it this way... if you are really depressed and you absolutely need the drugs well I guess hot flashes are something that might be better to deal with then major emotional turmoil however if you don't feel totally out of sort emotionally then try taking a little less of a pill for a few days and see are you ok or are things worse. If worse try every other day etc.

I know that I needed the lexapro for emotional reasons and I am happy it helped me at a time I really needed it. I know the problem with wellbutrin is it is a capsule and I have only had pills I can splice. '

Keep your emotional check in line. You might need the drug and I'm no doctor but I do think that a very slow gradual change in an SSRI makes it easier on the body if that is something you want to try to do.
