Investigation of Glaxo's Paxil widens: report 2 hours, 29 minutes ago

A U.S. Department of Justice investigation into whether GlaxoSmithKline PLC withheld data about the suicide risks of the antidepressant drug Paxil is widening, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

In its online editions, the newspaper said Glaxo confirmed that a previously disclosed Colorado-based investigation of its marketing practices also includes the U.S. attorney's office in Boston and is being coordinated by the agency in Washington.

Federal investigators in Boston last year asked lawyers for families that are suing Glaxo for information, documents and depositions concerning Paxil's potential link to suicidal behavior, and how the company portrayed that risk to doctors and the Food and Drug Administration.

Glaxo told the newspaper the company has responded to questions from the government and cooperated fully with the department.

Earlier this month, U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley asked regulators to investigate whether Glaxo withheld data about the risk of suicide when it applied for U.S. approval to market the drug.

I was given paxil years ago but only took it for a month, it was given to me numerous times and just kept throwing them on my head board and never took it, I am glad now that I did that.

ALso an FYI on Paxil: It promates memory loss. When my dad was first diagnosed with Alzheimers, I went to alotof classes and one was about pharmacuticles ( sp?). The speaker made comment about Paxil should not be given to people with AD because it promotes memoryloss.

I just want to let you all know that I am just like you, a regular person. I am not a doctor or a therapist, but I do promise to be there and listen as often as I can.

Jenn, that is the cutest and most clever miss-spelling of pharmaceuticals I've ever seen in my life. Laughing

Sorry...couldn't resist. Wink

No they're not, hon. You can still spell. But now, your brain tells you when you can or can't.

HI... Galya..I am always happy when a med works for someone.....

I would just like to say one thing... please be very careful if you ever try to go off Paxil.... It can have some very bad withdrawl side effects... so please talk to your doctor before trying to stop using it if that should ever happen...

But again I am glad it works for you....

HOpe you had a great Thanksgiving...

Craig
