Have you ever gone to the doctor and felt like he/she thinks you are crazy?

If so, how do you handle that? What was his/her advice or prescription?

hi Maria- I think I can speak for some others when I say "Yes- I often have felt many of the doctors I've seen make me feel as if I am crazy." It is very difficult. Prior to fibro getting worse for me I honestly and natively thought all doctors wanted to help people and that talking about the crazy things that were going on with my body was something I should do and feel comfortable doing. I soon learned that regardless of how well I articulated myself- I almost always felt emotionally worse walking out of a doctors office.

All I can say is unless you don't have a choice of doctors- I personally feel it is of no help seeing someone that ultimately will cause you stress because of their reaction to your concerns. MOVE ON- I can't tell you how much I doctor hopped. They say you are not suppose to however this is my body and my life and if I don't feel a doctor is treating me with some dignity and respect- I'm not wasting my time with them.

There are some doctor out there who will make you feel at ease. They might be there to examine you but you do your own form of examining as well. I didn't and their reactions and lack of bedside manor really took an emotional toll on me.

I'd handle it by simply moving on- but that's me. If they don't seem to be taking you seriously or they look at you like what you've described is as if you are an alien- I don't think it's that easy working with them- more so for you.

Hi Maria before I was diagnosed I was having anxiety and pannic attacks which were caused by my thyroid disease, now because they are recorded in my file anything that goes wrong was blamed on me being anxious,I did what they wanted me to do I saw a psychologist who said my problem was medical not in my head, the Dr. however chose to think otherwise so I did what meeggs has said I ditched him.The one I have now at least listens to what I have to say and dosn't hesitate to refer a patient on to someone who has more knowlege and experience.

It makes me very sad when I see Drs.blame mainly problems they can't explain especially in woman on anxiety or depression.

Yes I am having a hard time of it with doctors because they are all new to me. We just moved back to Ohio from North Carolina 2 years ago and so I had to find all new drs. When I was in NC, I worked for my internist. He is great. He actually still prescribes me meds if I need them and my new drs wont do it, because he knows how sick I am. He was always so caring, never thought I was crazy. These new ones, sometimes I think that they think I am making this stuff up or something. I dont like my fibro doc, I have to find a new one, and not crazy about my cardiologist. My EP dr I love! He fixed my pacemaker/tachy problems and have at least felt better in the heart department.
