The psyc gave Madison a Rx for clonodine for insomnia. Has anyone ever used this? She's 6 and it's used in ADHD, agressive behaviors and autism mainly for the calming and sleep side effects. We start tomorrow. It's a b/p med.

I was mistakenly given this medicine for anxiety and sleep instead of Klonopin, and it didn't seem to help me sleep much, and I took it for 3 weeks before I realized the mistake. But now I have high blood pressure. Not sure if it's due to that or now.

I say don't do it...call him back and ask him if he meant to Rx the clonidine rather than klonipin...they are on the "look alike sound alike" drug warnings. better to be safe than sorry!!

I am not familiar with either of the drugs mentioned other than just hearing that people take them.

To me, it would be so scary giving one as young as Madison sleeping aids etc.

I know we are told to trust our dr. etc., but there does come a time when we truly have to question and I think this should be one of ""those times"" for you/Madison.

At least call and talk with them a bit more about why this was prescribed and IF it is a mistake ~~~

No this is the right one. It's a b/p med. She explained that. It is being used in kids with ADHD, agressive behaviors, and autistic kids to aid with calming and sleep.

Madison stays up until 230 in the morning and gets up at 6 to go to school. She does not sleep. No naps. Jack's begining to do the same thing though he goes to bed around 12 or 1. I'd asked about melatonin but it's not reccommended to take it for more than a week or two at a time. It eventually stops the normal melatonin production in the brain. In kids anyway.

I hope it works for Madison and will help her sleep. She needs to sleep, whether she feels sleepy or not. Maybe once Jack sees her sleeping at night he'll follow suit. Wow, kids who don't sleep, on top of all your other problems. That must be so hard.

hugs,

Here is a website with some user reviews of people who have children taking it for insomnia they are about your daugters age. I never heard of it prescribed for that but alot of meds are used off label for things so this is obviously one of them. I hope it works well for her and she gets a wonderful nights sleep. Smile

This was the one that was mistakenly given to me by my doctor instead of Klonopin. But now that I am actually hypertensive, maybe I'll be back on it! Who knows?

Amy I hope it helps. I know on top of everything else we're going through we don't need kids who don't sleep!
