I love discussing fur babies. Wouldn't life be miserable without them? We have been threatening the great cat sacrifice for years now but for some reason they just don't believe us when we tell them that is what they are being fattened up for!

What all have your fur babies been up to.

I think one of my cats is getting dementia. Seriously.

She is 11 years old, a beautiful cat with muted colors of grey and yellow with a smidgen of black on a white background. She is a small cat with long hair. Very gentle and sweet. Even her pretty green eyes have a look of gentleness in them.

What has been happening is strange behaviour for her. For the past few weeks, Miss Pretty, has been climbing up on my kitchen counters...never had she done this before. If I sit down in any room to eat "whatever" (other than kitchen table) she will literally try to jump into my plate. I can tell her no over and over, even move her to the floor...it doesn't work. In order to get some peace I have to bring her a small saucer of whatever I am having.

I tried for weeks to get her to stop this behaviour and nothing is working..except I can keep her out of my food if I bring her a small dish of my food.

I have spoken sternly to her, I have moved her, I have even popped her on the butt (gently) nothing is stopping her.

Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on and how to stop her?

Hugs

Dear Bits,

I have 4 cats, varying in ages from 2-15. My two elder cats (one in particular), is/are exhibiting some signs of possible dementia. The oldest one, "Cootie", has always been very needy, but he is extra needy these days, and he is ever becoming more vocal.

I can relate to what you are going through with your baby!

I have this one book called: " Dog and Cat Care the Natural Way: Natural Pet Cures", by : Dr. John Heinerman (with a foreward by

Robert Goldstein,V.M.D.).

It was initially published in 1998.

While I cannot find, upon perusal of the index, any listings concerning dementia, according to the friend who gave me this book, Dr. Heinerman helped her out a few years ago, by actually

answering her very first phone call to him, and guiding her towards

getting holistic help for her dog, who had cancer/tumors.

Maybe he would be willing to talk to you about your cat?

His contact info. is:

Perhaps any one or all of these above places/people can guide you toward getting help for your kittie. Maybe give you advice,and/or guide you towards an animal behavioral specialist in your area.

I hope this will be of assistance to you and your baby!

Your kittie's behavior means something, and should be paid attention to!

Best of luck to you!

XO, Fromama

Does your cat hate water like most of them do? I'd suggest a spray bottle of water sitting next to you, and spray her before she starts to jump into your plate. This is quite effective with my cat. Number one, she hates water (probably) and number two, she won't associate the punishment of the water with her human (thus maybe avoiding her peeing on your clothes, etc. in anger.). I hope this helps!

My Pepper puppy is being a total goof! I guess it's a Boxer breed thing, but she is the clumsiest dog I think I've ever seen! She was watching out the window the other day when my oldest got off the schoolbus, and her tail was wagging so hard she fell right off the back of the couch!! LOL Then she looked at me as if I had done it!

I like this thread already ---- it will momentarily get my attention off the pain Smile

I have 2 cats, 1 dog, 1 cockatiel, and some fish.

The 2 cats are "Betty" (Betty is all black, 8 y/o, and has diabetes requiring insulin injections twice per day, she was diagnose about 6 mos ago) & Chloe (also 8 y/o, white with grey cow spots, some striping on the blotches of grey). Betty, the diabetic, is becoming more and more vocal as well, follows me around like a puppy, she get along very well with my dog.

Dog's name is Daniel. He's a mix I think of Boxer, and Am. Staff. He is a lover boy, the sweetest thing... He knows when I feel badly (like now), and he is even more calm and cuddly during those times. He's approx 1.5 y/o, a very good boy.

I love my furry babies & they show their love for me every day too Smile Don't know what I'd do without them!

Daniel has the white - tuxedo blotch on his chest and belly that you can't see in the pics cuz the clothes are covering it up... You'd see the boxer in him more if you could see that... Your cute baby girl has that too, I think. I need to post more pics of him - I'll let you know when I do Smile Do you ever dress her up? How about for haloween?!

Pepper is curled up in my rocking chair, sitting next to me while I'm typing on the computer. I took some cute pics, and I'll get them uploaded to photobucket and put on here maybe this weekend!

I have 5 kitties,mice,30 gallon tank of fish, one rabbit and one dog. I do love my fur babies also. My dog ( Midknight ) knows when I am having a bad day too he will not leave me alone and if I am stuck in bed all day because of pain he will stay in bed and cuddle with me and watch movies, tv or watch me play video games or sleep and he will only leave me when he needs to go potty or eat. He has chosen me for his alpha lol. My cats are great too, although two out of the five are my mother in laws cats ( boomer and merlin ) and they too have become more vocal and lovey and boomer rarely like anyone and thats including humans. I have three of the five cats and their names are kisses, princess and squeeker and he is the newest baby of the cat family his is 17 weeks old and a nascar kitty lol. My rabbits name is Bently and my mouses names are za-za ( as in za-za gabor ), gus gus ( like on cinderella), splinter ( from teenage mutant ninja turtles) and micky. I find that they are like a form of therapy for me. boomer is a healer I believe because when she sits on me and its a spot were I hurt it goes away when she purrs and when I have my really horrible headaches she will sleep on my pillow touching my head and starts to purr it goes away too. I think I would be more depressed if I didnt have my fur babies.
