I need advice. It's MS related, not FM. I know this is a FM forum but trust y'alls opinions. What would you do in my situation? I am still in limbo. I saw the neuro for the first time last month. I go Oct 5th for MRIs and EVP. My dilema is this. Last night I woke up after finally getting to sleep. I sat straight up in bed. I couldn't breathe. I was choking on spit. I went to cough to clear my throat and almost threw up all over my bed. Now I feel as though there's a lump in my throat that won't go away. I'm having trouble swallowing food. Since I'm in limbo and have no idea if this is even related to MS, should I call my neuro? I'm on baclofen but it doesn't seem to help any other muscle spasms. Help please.

Amy, any trouble swallowing that is that severe should be checked out. It could be an allergic reaction to a medication, too, and just because you've not started something new doesn't mean that an allergy hasn't developed.

The lump is still there. It's not an allergic reaction. The choking episode was once. The difficulty swallowing is like having lots of bread stuck there. You know, you have to get a big drink to get it down. I've done that before, but never the choking.

I would still contact my doctor or an Urgent Care clinic just to be on the safe side. Most doctors have an answering service that you can leave a message with in an emergency.

It is very scarry when you do not know what is wrong. call your md asap. If it is related to the ms, maybe they can move your tests closer if not, they can figure out what is going on.

Amy, I've been having the swallowing thing like you said, having alot a bread stuck in my throat the last few days but I also have a touch of what could be a cold or flu, nothing but a sore throat and fever. Do you have a sore throat along with this lump? Have you checked you tempeture? I did check mine and it was 100.9 which would be high for me since I usually run 97.4 or 97.6 normally. I haven't had anything like what you had while sleeping but I'm thinking that you just had something go down the wrong pipe, which woke you up and your coughing caused some type of spasm of the throat muscle. There is alot going around right now so if you don't feel any better by Monday I would go a see your dr. Better to be safe than sorry. I was at my dr's Thursday and he put me on Tamiflu as a precautionary measure because most of the patients he saw that day had the flu. They swab me and my was negative but he didn't want to take any chances since I already had a fever and sore throat.

Hugs

Lori
