How many of you work from home?

How did you get into the field that you're in?

Special requirements needed?

I am looking for ways that I can earn a living...from home. I've examined enough offers to know the majority of them are scams. So, I thought I'd ask for input from you guys...you're waaaay more knowledgable anyway!!!Smile

I work from home. I am very thankful to be an editor for an Internet media company. On bad days I can work from my bed with my laptop. Smile

That said, most legit work at home jobs involve doing telephone work. Have you ever called to order something from an infomercial or a shopping channel? In most cases, the person who answers the phone is working from their home.

This type of work requires a computer and usually a second phone line as well as a phone with a noise canceling headset. Of course you also need a quite work environment. The pay is okay. Many people support their family doing this. No benefits usually. Typically you are an independent contractor.

If you have special computer skills, know a foreign language, have book keeping skills, etc, there are other types of work at home jobs that require these skills. As you can imagine, there is a great deal of competition for these jobs. However, it is ultimately worth it. It is such a relief to work from home.

I am NOT a doctor. My advice is purely based on my own personal experience and study. You should always consult your doctor before messing with your meds or adding supplements.

Another great job to work from home is Medical Transcribing. You can make a great deal of money with it depending on how many clients/Drs you get to work for. You have to be able to type FAST and of course you have to take a course/courses to learn all the medical terms and such. You are an independent contractor with no benefits.

There is an online course you can take that isn't overly expensive:

www.careerstep.com 1-800-246-STEP

This course will improve your typing speed and teach you everything you need to know to be a medical transcriber. What you do is listen to recorded tapes by Drs and then type them up into reports. You can do it in you jammies!

A great typing teacher course is....Mavis Beacon...a computer course.

Yes, that is an excellent suggestion. I had considered learning transcription. However, my typing speed isn't great and I was afraid I'd have trouble learning all the terminology. But there are many companies that hire people to transcribe from home. Careerstep is one of the best courses for it from what I've heard.

HI... I would like to say a couple of things about the Medical Transcribing.

If you are going to take one of the courses that you get via the internet, PLEASE research them very carefully...... because a lot of them are rip offs.

I have two friends that signed on with these type of training classed and both were really ripped off.... They were not give enough information to really complete the class... and when they are told there is 24/7 help.... there was not...... OH yes if you wanted to end up paying more you could get more help.... Now mind you these were two very well advertised and rated courses....... And the two people I know that took them are much about average intelligence.....

I just hope that any one going into any of these types of classes or courses... will first do you home work on them...research...get references, and make sure that what you are buying is the final, and I do mean the final cost.... that there is no possiblities of any other cost...... and have it in writing, everything must be in writing........

Again... this really happened to a couple of people I know, so please be careful........

Again this is just my "2" cents worth....

Craig

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for your inputSmile I have been checking into the medical transcription, or even coding. Thanks for the 'heads up' on what to look for and what questions to ask should I decide to seriouly persue that path.

I am interested in the flexibility so that I can remain available for my Mom...as well as continuing to be home when my daughter gets out of school.

Maybe I need to broaden my search??? My educational background includes an assoc. degree, diploma and certificate...all three in different areas, but they tie together pretty nicely. I'm thinking I ought to be able to get into something from home....just gotta keep lookingSilly

Thanks again for your input!!!Cheerful Sideways Smile
