I have a question for anyone that is constipated from their pain medications. I have been taking senna on a daily basis for the constipation, but recently it hasn't been helping as well. My question is does anyone use an enema and if so, how often is safe? Everyday, once a week, once a month, etc?

Prince,

I never used an enema. I think I was given one at the hospital once when I was having my daughter.

You could probably ask the pharmacist for some help with your questions. I have found Miralax to be helpful in that department. It's sold over the counter now, it's a powder & it doesn't have any taste. You can put it in any drink.

Personally, I think good old-fashioned prune juice is the best remedy, especially heated in the microwave for a few seconds. Next to that would be Metamucil. I'd be hesitant about enemas because one can get to the point of needing them all the time, I think.

Yes... I have used an enema. If things are really really bad I will use one. I don't LIKE to use one but-butt when you can't go and it hurts well it is an option.

You certainly would not want to do them daily. I would think weekly wouldn't be overkill but I'm not a professional.

In my situation there are times "things just don't move" so- to be more specific- if you don't have stool in your lower bowel it doesn't help much- at least for me.

Stool softer is something you can take regularly- I was told that after I was diagnosed with IBS. You just don't want to be dependent on laxatives because your body can get reliant on them and then you won't go unless you take something.

I think "Terribell" I think that is her name is actually going for colonic therapy to help with her constipation. She might be helpful with the enedma info

A ducolax suppository every now and then works great to get things moving on the lower end............
