Today, the first day of spring, is my one year anniversary for quitting! I've finally reached the point that I don't want one, but still get an occasional craving. I smoked for 25 years.

Most of my friends still smoke and are concerned that the smell will bother me. I actually like the smell.

As far as quitting goes, wait until your sure it's your time and do it for yourself, not those around you. Make sure your motivated because it will be the hardest thing you'll ever do. Your mind will try to make all sorts of deals with itself for just one more. Chantix does help, but it's no magic pill. You won't gain weight if you substitute a short walk for one cigarette and drink LOTS of water.

If there's any doubt in your mind about quitting, don't try yet, it's not worth the frustration. It's your mind and your body. You're the boss.

Happy Spring Everyone !!!

Congrats psk

that's why I'm not quitting yet, my family will pay the price really bad. My husband already told the doctor that I will be a real B####! & he might have to move out temporarily.

I did keep the pamphlet he gave me, I should hang it on the frig.

I want to get my meds all squared away first, I don't need to be withdrawling from several things at once

I've lost about 5 -7 lbs since going off Cymbalta, most people it has the opposite effect, I think.

Temazepam will be next (for sleeping), then cut back on the Lyrica, go off the Keppra & I think I'm done for now.

I consider myself a nicotine addict rather than smoker. I don't realy "enjoy" smoking anymore and every time I light up, I feel I'm just "feeding the monkey." I'm glad more and more people are starting to recognize it for the addiction it is, too. My (now former) PA gave me a lecture about the smoking on the first day. Like I don't know it isn't good for me. I should have taken a hint when she talked about having breast cancer and getting angry with the patients outside the hospital smoking through their tracheotomy holes, thinking to herself, "I didn't ask for my cancer" and insinuatng that they did "ask for it." I believe smoking only causes cancer in those predisposed to it for there is no other explanation why the many generations of HEAVY smokers in my family never had smoking related illnesses. Even without the mass hysteria generated about cancer and emphysema, smoking has a lot of other negatives and I hate being a slave to the nicotine. But as pointed out earlier, until you are READY to quit, nothing is going to work. It is a battle I'm just not ready to face yet. I've had several friends who had great success with Chantix and figure that will be my aid of choice when the time comes.

Good luck, Suzee! Happy Birthday! I think it's great that you're quitting. It'll be hard to do, but worth it. I have never smoked, but my step-mom and her parents did. And after witnessing the smell you can't get rid of, and all the money my relatives wasted on those things, and watching my step-mom's health decline I decided it just wasn't worth it. So I never started.

I actually agree with the laws that won't let people smoke in public places. (Though when you smoke outside, could you do it away from the door? Every time I get a whiff of cigarette smoke I start sneezing.) And I feel so sorry for all the waiters and bartenders and such who are stuck breathing that poison at work every day. And some people with lung problems, asthma, and allergies simply cannot physically handle breathing in cigarette smoke. So when every restaurant in town has smoking, and none of the non-smoking sections are truly smoke free, where exactly are people like us supposed to go? Nowhere! Are we supposed to just stay home and shut up about it? We have as much right to be in public as you smokers do. So I'm glad they're making smoking laws.

But our government should not keep you folks from smoking at home! If that ever starts to happen, I'm packing up and moving to Canada. And I think they should allow you folks to open up some sort of public smoking lounges, maybe in tobacco shops. Make it a smokers only kind of a place and you don't have to worry about some non-smoker getting sick. (Or dying of hypothermia smoking outside in a blizzard!)

Have a terrific day!

Best decision you will ever make suzee. I quit 24 years ago and I don't miss it. Especially with what you guys are paying for a pack of cigarettes now. Good luck on your quitting.

Happy Birthday Suzee! And good luck with quitting...I KNOW you can do it! Ten years now for me without a cigarette except for one eensy teensy relapse 7 years ago while I was going through my divorce.

It was so hard for me to quit, and it had taken me 6 tries over two years to finally make it...so I put that half cigarette out because it was only making me light headed and dizzy, and I knew if I started up again I might not be able to quit again. Hardest thing I've ever done but well worth it in the long run. You are so strong, I know you'll do it!
