In the field I am in we are looking at new and inventitive ways to hire competent and efficient employees. So with that in mind I am looking at the private industries and their recruitment methods. And I came acrossed something that I thought I would share. In alot of business's the hiring manager will look up the perspective employee on sites such as myspace and facebook. Also googling the candidate. Sooo, although sometimes ficticious we need to keep in mind that even though some sites only allow certain people to view the page, nothing on the internet is private. I thought I would share that friendly reminder with you all since I know there are some looking for work and there are allot of us with Myspace and other accounts. So just a reminder that although we sometimes have a false sense of security and need to remember simple things such as this. Smile

That is a great reminder Cori. I actually know a person who didn't get a job due to that because I was in on the interviewing process!!!

Yes it's not a very happy thing to think about but I think we all need the reminder every once in awhile Wink

Not only that, but we never know when it can lead to harm from cyberstalkers and stuff.

As an added precaution, I wanted to let all of you know about some computer viruses that I received notice about. One is an UPS or FedEx virus and parcel or package and the second is about email greeting cards. I verified that these are actual viruses and not sure how much I am allowed to go into about them here so please everyone, be careful and don't open emails from anyone you don't recognize and in the case of the greeting cards, it starts in an actual address book from email and goes out to anyone in there. It destroys your computer.

Midnyte - thanks for the reminder to the group! We actually got that UPS/FedEx warning from our IS department about a month ago. It's sad what people come up with to scam others!

Wouldn't it be great if the people who think up these viruses and stuff would take their talents and put them to good use, like finding ways to stop cancer and AIDS and fibro instead? The same with tagging. Those kids are so art talented! Why waste it on destroying public property. Ah, but I digress from the fibro content, don't I? It's good to hear those reminders and I never even thought of them. Thanks for posting them!

For women especially, don't relay too much information about yourselves.

I jumped all over a friend of mine in the group for stating where she lived, posting pics of her house and stating that she lived alone. This is an invitation for robbery or rape or worse.

For those of you who have looked at my profile, you'll see it says virtually nothing. And I am always cautious about what I say online. There are certain things I will never talk about online...I don't care how close I am with anyone. I just won't say them. Protect yourselves, ladies.
