and if so, what do you say?

I always talk to my pets like they can completely understand me. Who knows, maybe they do!

I call my horse "sweetpea" and "beautiful" all the time, and I swear she preens when I do! And of course dogs react to the sound and pitch of your voice, so they know if you're happy or sad when you talk to them.

I think cats are just cats.

Love,

Tramadol 400mg/day

Then you've never had an intelligent cat! I've always talked to my cats and I have been owned by some who were pretty dumb, but I've had some that were pretty intelligent.

Morti understands a lot of what I'm saying. I'm sure a lot is the tone of my voice but I'm sure he's got a pretty large vocabulary. It's cracked me up the first time I threatened to kick his a$$ and he really reacted. So I emailed his former "daddy" and asked him why the cat knew that phrase LOL...

He definitely knows his name, which puts him above most of (but not all) of the cats I've known. When I tell him to go get a toy, he goes and gets a toy. Not the one I want, but he knows the word "toy". All his words have to do with him, but he knows "nite-nite", dinner, "Ima kick your ass" his name, Honey cat, happy cat, "toy", hungry, and company.

I sometimes talk to him like he's a friend or housemate, sometimes I talk babytalk to him. He doesn't care, he just likes being the center of attention LOL...

And most importantly, he knows if I stop breathing when I'm sleeping, he needs to wake me up if he wants dinner tomorrow Laughing Let's see a horse do that! Laughing

My kitties are pretty smart, they def both know their names. They are brother and sister and we've had them since the day they were born. I am alot closer to my big fat girl Fluffy. I don't know what I would do without her. I talk to them like they are just 2 more people in the house lol. If Max gets out he always go right up the highest tree the dummy. Fluffy will beat on him when he returns she doesn't like that he runs off it's really funny. She's very mothering to him cleaning him and stuff but will be mad at him for a few days when he runs off. She can come out on the patio with us and will never leave the patio area if she starts to get nosy I just say Fluffy come here and she comes right to me. Kitties are funny creatures. Wink

We have 2 dogs, 3 indoor and one outdoor cat. Our one dog Kayonna a chihuahua rescue always knows when I'm not feeling good - she sticks to me like glue LOL. I think our animals do know the tone of our voices, etc. and they all have different personalities. Our one cat Ivy is mischievious and when I get into bed she'l meow about 5 times to get my attention LOL - she wants to play! She also gets the coated rubber bands I use to tie my hair back and she'll "catch" them with her paws when we throw one!

Laughing Absolutely! It makes them smile, especially my Dal/LabX. She doesn't always like to hear my husband sing to her though. LOL My oldest Dal, Heather, loves to be talked to while I massage her ears. It puts her into her Zen mode. I think our voice is very comforting to our pets & Yes, they know what words mean and I have to spell some of them : treats, food, walk, grandma, leash, and many more. Smile

Minty Fresh is the name of one of my favorite characters in Chris Moore's books!

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that your bird laughs like you, I'm betting you laugh a lot Smile

My late lamented Bustercat was neurotic as hell and always ate his belly fur. He was pretty intelligent to. My Albert Einstein cat (dumber than a post) knew when you were calling him fat and it would hurt his feelings. He'd turn his back on you, then turn his head and give you "puppy eyes" So we'd have to tell him he wasn't fat, he was just fluffy and he'd go back to his silly, sweet self.

Morti not only wakes me when I stop breathing, but he loves to retrieve hair ties and headbands, but they have to be just the right size or he won't bother. He'll also retrieve wadded up paper, but only if it's just him and me. He refuses to do it if there is company in the house LOL... I've read that retrieving is a trait of Maine Coon cats and so is keeping favorite toys in his food bowls, something else he does.

Athena knows how to shake her head yes. Hubby didn't believe me when I said I had taught her this, so when he went to feed one day, he asked her if she was hungry. Of course she said yes. Then he asked her if she loved her daddy, and she said yes again. Getting the smart @ss that he is, he then asked her if she loved her daddy more than she loved her mommy. She looked at him for a moment then shook her head NO! (I'd never taught her that!) So he said ok funny horse, what's the square root of (some number he made up). She looked at him like he'd lost his ever loving mind and then turned around and stuck her butt in his face! ROFL

And Rayne, if she were allowed in the house, she just MIGHT know if I stopped breathing in my sleep!! But hubby won't let her inside Sad
