I have heard of the steel cut oats and have even seen them at Dillons.

What do you do to make up a batch for the whole week? Do yo divide it up into individual bowls/packages?

I have frozen blueberries I can use, along with chopped nuts and some dried cranberries.

Tell me how to do it an I'll pick up the oats at the store. Thanks, I'm excited.

I make it and put just a little more h20 in it and I just have a rectangle shaped zip lock container and cover tight, and I scoop out of it. I add prunes(dried plumbs) sometimes. In the winter its nice to add dried stuff, when fresh is expensive. I just know you'll love it Mc Beth! Yummy it will last you a couple hours! I doubt I'd have gotten through an hour on a packet of that instant. It does however make a nice filling snack at about 8:00pm It doesnt really have too many calories to use it for a snack I think its 3 or 4 pts.

I think Quaker Oats now has instant oatmeal that's higher in fiber, if you want to give that a try.

Yeah, they do, it's called Weight Control Quaker Oats instant oatmeal. It's got less sugar and carbs, and twice the amt. of fiber as their regular instant oatmeal...it comes in cinnamon raisin and doesn't taste too bad...I keep waiting for the weight control part to kick in though...

I tried that too. It does have more fiber but it's still just a marketing ploy - less for a small convienient package. I need to eat MORE than they give you.

Wow...I am sooo glad that I found this thread! I have been watching my weight, but unfortunately it's going in the wrong direction. I have been through several medication changes this year that have caused me to get really discouraged and gain back a lot of weight that I removed last year.

So, I am renewed and ready for the challenge. I know what to do, just need the accountability to do it. So, here's my plan for this week.

1. Scan the foods available at my family reunion and choose what is best for me. (Not going back for seconds.)

2. Drink my water each day, even while I am traveling.

3. Exercise with our puppy at least three times this week. (She loves to take walks. I think we are going to walk to school this afternoon.

4. Remember that I am NOT alone in this battle and that together, we CAN and WILL win it!

Something funny:

I too started the week with renewed sense of self. I was going to start to watch what I ate and try to incorporate exercise and yoga into my plan. So I bought 2 pound weights and a yoga CD.

Well yesterday I tried it out. Desite the fact that the pharmacy and the neurologist have not got my prescription for provigil straightened out and I have been unable to stay awake.

I put the CD into the player and after 3 phone calls to my husband, I got it to work. So there I was---no knowledge of yoga and no exercise for 2 years. I started the CD and it was going pretty well, except that I was a long way from looking like the yoga instructor. Well, after about 15 minutes she said to go to the doggy something position and take a few cleansing breaths. That is all I know until my daughter and my grandson came through the front door about 45 min. later. I had been sleeping on the floor. I guess I rested to long.

Today I made it a few minutes longer through the CD and I sm still awake. I guess I have a long way to go!

LOL ALCSS. That's probably what I would do. I want to find that CD

Yoga for Seniors. It's not done on the floor but in a chair. I can envision myself getting down on the floor to do Yoga and not being able to get up or else falling asleep during the session. Course I'd have to have me cell phone close so I could call my stepson to come and help me get up.
