I've been on both sides of the fence. When I was first diagnosed, I weighed just over 100 lbs. now, lets just say I'm over double that even with the recent weight loss.

I am trying to eat healthier but budget doesn't allow for many things that are really good for you. You all know how expensive good for you things can be. Its like the food companies are in cohorts with the weight loss ppl sometimes. I'm trying to snack on baby carrots with a small amount of dressing when I'm really craving food. I have oatmeat for breakfast and for late night snacks if not in the mood for the carrots. I found a portion of WebMD that allowed me to test what I am eating compared to what I should be eating but couldn't go further because of certain reasons.

Will update more later. BTW, funny post ithurtsalot.

Okay I am off to a slow start. I am going to take my doggie for a walk right now. I had nice wholesome oatmeal for breakfast. Ate up all the goodies(badies)yesterday so the slate is clean. Anyone else still into this?

I ate oatmeal one day this week for breakfast and in a little over an hour I was starving.

I went to the store and bought bread that has 45 calories per slice, I think, and 5 grams of fiber. Also bought a jar of the Smuckers peanutbetter, that you have to mix the oil up. Used 2 TBLS peanutbutter and 1 TBLS of Strawberry jam on 2 slices of that bread. It's 10:00 and I'm not that hunrgy. I brought an apple to work with me so I'll eat that in a little while.

Now to get in all the water!

Hey I like that bread. I also like the english muffins w pb and banana slices on top. I also put grapes on the pb then put apple slices on top. I have also been chowing on jello w/ mandarin oranges n grapes with low fat cottage cheese. the grapes stay realy cold and crisp in jello.

The protein in the peanut butter is what helps you stay full and gives you energy when you mix it with the carbs of the bread. If you want to lessen the calories even more, you can try sugar-free or low-sugar jams/jellies. I use Smuckers low sugar grape jelly and you really can't tell the difference!

I'm surprised the oatmeal made you hungry so quickly. You might want to try one with a higher fiber count. Fiber is supposed to be great for helping to fill you up so you eat less. One suggestion might be to add some fresh fruit to it.

Just my two cents. not doing very well on my end with the diet...I eat whatever I want when I'm sick because with no appetite it's the only way I can make myself get any food into me (I think hubby's wonderful cold he gave me has turned into bronchitis....yay!!) I always joke that I could be a nutritionist with everything I've learned about dieting and nutrition through the past decade, but I don't always do well with following my own advice.

One more thought about bread. I don't know if you've read the labels on a lot of them, but it's surprising how many "brand names" have little or no fiber in them. Even the wheat breads. I've found that the store brands (I go to Shop Rite and Giant) have more fiber - 5 g per slice in the rye bread!! That's 10 g for a full sandwich, which is almost unheard of!!! You can also find light varieties. Also, weight watcher's bagels, though they are expensive, have if I remember correctly about 9 g (don't quote me on this one). This is doubly good for us because a lot of us have IBS and need tons more fiber than the average person.

Mcbeth, what kind of oatmeal did you eat? quick oats or old fashioned oats? I eat the old fashioned oats every moring around 8 am (1 serving). I don't get hungery tell about 12. But today I have the quick oats at 8am, becouse I ran out of the other kind and I had to eat allready at 10:30 am. So maybe try the old fashioned oats.

It was a package of original instant oatmeal.

I wish there was some way to make a batch of regular oatmeal on Sunday then just re-heat what you need during the week. I really don't have time in the morning to stand and cook oatmeal over the stove and get me and Tom ready for work.

Quick oatmeal in the micro its cheaper and just as fast as instant- I peel and slice an apple cook 1 min in bowl no h2o cover w a saucer steam cooks it then add 1/2 cup oatmeal and 1 cup h2o it is about 2x the amount you get in those packets. I never eat the kind in packets they give you more sugar than oatmet most of the time.

What I reall really reall really like best is steel cut oats they are hearty and do take a while to cook. this kind I do cook enough for the week I add dried cherries sometimes I always top either kind Imake w/ sugar free syrup or sweetner and about 1/2 cup milk. The steel cut kind is more expensive, but it is the creme de la creme of oatmeals you might find it in the health food isle or in the health or organic foods store. I like to put walnuts or pecans in it to just a few.

The instant kind never fills me up either. I think the oatmeal and milk is only about 3 ww points. Did you ladies read my goofy story about food-I think it was on Saturday's post. It is dumb but I am proud of it anyway. I hve really blown off a lot of stress with pure goofiness!
