MDJunction to me

"MDJunction to me is a life saver... when i first was diagnosed with Scheuermann's Disease i wrote a message to a page i found on google, hoping that they could help me.... you'd never know it but that weird feeling (you know that one where it feels like someone actually cares) came over me when i opened my email next day to find that someone on the other side of the world (at the American Medical Library)had read my message while i was sleeping, and there low and behold was the address to MDJunction.... well it is everything to me, i live it breathe it and love it!!!!! I have found many people who are struggling with similar issues banding together to help each other. It is the best place in the world, and i couldn't think of another place to go to meet so many lovely people....

thanks MDJunction

I go back and forth so much with my weight and don't exersize like I should. I have been thinking of going back to WW. It's expensive 10.00 per week but it might be a lot cheaper than buying new clothes -that I won't like anyway because they are so BIG LOOKIN. Anyone else out there wanna try to encourage each other on getting started with this or maybe just struggling along together. Ann

I have been watching my weight... get heavier and heavier. *lol* Honestly though, I have lost 12 lbs. but just started on Lyrica and from what I read here, it causes weight gain. I have gained a good 100 lbs in the past 3 years at least. Having never been over 125 before, being at my weight now is killing me on top of the fibro and all the other stuff. I can't begin to afford WW but am glad to share recipes and encourage others in our/my efforts to lose some weight.

I have some sites I get great recipes. I'll try to gather them together and post them here asap. Best of luck in your efforts! I need all the encouragement I can get with the current stressful circumstances.

Count me in. They closed our Weight Watchers a week ago so I'm on my own. I went to the meetings because I new I would be accountable on my own. Now maybe I can be accountable here.

I'd be happy to participate in any informal group on this forum who would help me stay on the beam with a weight management program. After gaining and losing the same pounds over and over and then putting more on, having to go up a clothes size or two, and having three sizes of clothes in my closet, I have lost the enthusiasm, energy, self-discipline, and at times, even the desire to diet -- oops, the dreaded "d word." I mean stick to the "healthy eating plan."

It is so terribly hard for me to lose weight now with the meds I'm taking that pack on the pounds, and not having the energy to exercise much. When I do force myself to do some aerobic exercise, even walking, I am in such pain the next day that I can hardly get out of bed to do my required chores and take care of my kids.

The depression from feeling bad physically so much of the time, and being in pain, makes watching my weight seem like one more onerous chore. I stress eat and I eat for pleasure and comfort, and at times it feels like it is not worth the extra stress and self-condemnation of trying so hard to lose weight and not being able to, or of continuing to relapse and gain all of the weight back and more. So I am torn between working to accept the fat me as I am and make the best of it, or to torment myself with guilt and self-loathing for being so fat and lacking in discipline.

I never used to be this way about exercise, in fact I loved, it, but since fibro and a bad knees and foot injuries which make exercise difficult (beside swimming which is expensive because of having to belong to a health club, at least where I live, and a hassle, not to mention, I usually pay for it the next day. In order to burn off enough calories to make a difference, I have to exercise harder and longer, and I don't seem to be able to do that any more.

Never-the-less, watching the weight is easier when you are doing with others. Right now my goal is to not gain any more weight and to stay motivated to eat healthy foods. When I am depressed and feeling bad about myself, I stop caring about even trying to eat right and lose weight.

Well, how should we start out? I really think we should try to change things gradually- We could each choose 1 or 2 things per week to do differently then update each on our progress. We all should go at our own pace. I think I should start with cutting back on goodies ,sugar, eatting more veggies and get moving this week. Next, week I should build on my good habits from week 1. We can also give each other encouragement in between weekly check-ins. Let's share our struggles giving each other tips on getting through some of the rocky times as well as toot our own horns for doing well. Let's tell our goal for each week on our check in day. Maybe we should call that our short term goal, we could also each choose a monthly goal. Any other thoughts? I also like recipe ideas, or What have you been eatting good latelty? After we get them all together I will make an optional of course structure for our FIBRO-LOOSERS- thread. As always It can be a work in progress. Sounds GREAT, and CHEAP!!! Right up my alley! Ann

Ok, here are a few of the recipe sites I get in my email that have nice recipes with less bad things in em. Unfortunately some require more expensive ingredients but with a little creative thinking, can be substituted with less expensive ones.

www.eatingwell.com

www.dinnermadeeasy.com

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/lf_health/

http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/HealthyLiving/Pages/ HealthyLivingLandingPage.aspx?e=email

More to come as soon as I can get them together. You can get subscriptions to all these for free! I have tons of sites on my PC but unfortunately it is in disrepair for awhile so I can't get into my favs folder. As I get more emails for recipes I'll try to remember to add them.

Note about weight: I am almost up to 13 lbs of loss so far. I've been trying to find things to do (like read posts here) when I get the cravings from stress or whatever. I've also found that if I feel myself getting those moods I can find a lovely picture online or if possible, I go sit in our fav spot by the river and watch the boats, ppl fishing, and when I'm really lucky, dolphins playing I think I could sit in that spot all day!

I can't wait to hear other suggestions and successes of our little fibro family. Even when we have failures, we will have each other to support and cheer us on! I know just the few lbs I have lost seem to have helped a bit and I think having each of you to cheer me on, maybe I can lose even more.
