Do any of you have lupus as well as fibro? I should probably ask in a different forum but I feel more comfortable here.

I am going to make another attempt at seeing my doctor and will see what she thinks, but I am more and more thinking I have lupus. My mom has lupus and fibro. I have many of the same symptoms (although I know they have similar symptoms) and I even have the "butterfly rash" on my face (lightly).

My ANA was negative I think. That is what the nurse said over the phone at least. I also know that a negative ANA does not necessarily exclude lupus.

Anyhow, I know that there is something else going on. It isn't only the fibro. I just keep feeling worse instead of better. I wondered if I am over reacting or what you all think.

Kat, I am sorry that I cannot shed light on your question regarding Lupus. I don t think I even know anyone suffering from Lupus. I am sure there will be someone else here who can help you or check out the Lupus Forum for answers.

I will, however, keep you in my prayers and hope you get some sort of definite diagnosis soon.

The butterfly rash can certainly be an indicaation of lupus but maybe it's rosacea from being in the sun too much when you were younger. My stepmother and a friend has lupus. Both had extreme pain in their legs and had to chew gum because of dry mouth. That's about all I can remember for sure. My stepmother was really in pain with her legs, probably had other pain too. She lived with it into her late 70's. She never complained about it, though. My father always told me about it. Now I wonder if she actually had FMS with the lupus. Her daughter had CFS. This was 20 years ago.

My legs are really bad too. Some days I can hardly walk at all. The fatigue is just unreal lately.

I guess I can't even really think straight at the moment. I am just too stressed out. Just found out my mom had another stroke and is in the hospital. We may have to go up there in the next day or two. I don't expect her to live much longer.

I just realized that my previous post made no sense. My REAL mom has fibro and lupus. My grandmother adopted me and raised me. She is the one who is in the hospital. My real mom takes care of her. I am a bit of a basket case right now. Sorry about the confusion.

Anyhow, many of my symptoms fit both lupus and fibro. The pain, the rash (I suppose it could be rosacea but I have a feeling it isn't), the high liver function that has no apparent reason, sores in my mouth, purple fingers, vision problems( and super dry eyes). The list could go on and on.

So I am a bit paranoid. My old doctor seemed concerned because my real mother has lupus and it can be hereditary. I just need to get in to the doctor instead of worrying. I tend to over-analyze things. I'll have to wait until all this stuff with my mom is over with I think. It is just adding more stress. We'll be driving through a tropical storm to get there and two days of driving will absolutely kill me. Then I'll have to see Mom like that. She won't even know who I am. I just feel like I can't handle this.

I don't want to go see her. I want to remember her like she was. I guess that is selfish. I am just so stressed I am about sick.

So thanks for listening to my meltdown. I'm sure I'll be fine in a week or so.

Thank you. We will be leaving town tomorrow afternoon so we can see her before she is gone. I don't expect her to live much longer. I think the storm should be gone by the time we get upstate so at least that won't add to the stress.

Hey Kat- Did you get your next doctor's appt. made? Just wondering if you've gone yet and what you found out.

You can read my bio to find more about me. But, I do want to tell you that I have Lupus in addition to Fibro. So yeah, you can have both.

Okay, a few questions for ya: 1) Have they checked for protein in your urine? This plays a big role in diagnosing Lupus. 2) You stated that you have high liver function. Did they do blood work to get to the bottom of this?

In addition to getting those things taken care of in the last paragraph- I think you should ask for a skin biopsy of the rash. It is a little painful. But the biopsy, along with the blood work, and your symptoms- should make it easier for the doctors to figure out what's going on.

Please keep us infomred on how things are going with you. We're here for ya! You take care!!!!
