MDJunction to me

"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

I used to do ceramics and loved it. I still have some of the stuff I made back then too. I painted Christmas ornaments and sold them at craft shows for a few years until my fine tuning abilitiy left me. I also liked to read. Gardening came in when I remarried and moved to Ohio. I just love to get my hands in dirt. Now all I do is pull weeds cause my hands hurt so bad at times. Until the gas prices went up, I belonged to a place called Find a Grave. People who need pictures of headstones for their geneology books will contact find a grave and make a request for the headstone of the person they are looking for. If it's in my area, I go to the cemetery and take a picture and send it to the requester. I also am into geneology. I have made a book for our future generations to see. It has pictures of the relatives, birth certificates, death certificates, Obituaries, a picture of the boat that grandpa came over on, a picture of the church he helped start and helped build along with the school, stories etc etc. I took a look at the paper version and said to myself that's nice but no one will care about that in the future. I wanted to make something where they could see what the people in their family looked like. Took me better than a year and I'm only about half way done with it.

What a good topic. I know when I'm having a bad day it gets boring just sitting around. In the summer I work in my garden which is my favorite thing to do. I do a lot of painting, refinishing furniture kind of stuff.

Lately my hands have been hurting though. Thank goodness it comes and goes because I don't wanna give up my painting.

I like to play on POGO online games. Once you start for get it. The time goes by so fast, its addicting.

malaluka, that is such a wonderful thing that you do. Maybe more of us should try to do a hobby that gives back to the community.

I love to garden, but we dont have the house all fixed up yet. So I have not been able to do any gardening.

I have done crocheting in the past. My uncle just asked me to make him some stuff, so I guess I need to find my supplys and get started soon.

I love knowing what everyone else does. Kind of makes us all a little closer.

I have been reading through alot of the posts,it is nice to know that there is more to all of us besides FMS.My husband and I belong to the American Legion and our posts Legion Riders. We do alot of motorcycle rides to help raise money for different things.I really miss the rides,(potholes are my enemy)my favorite part is going to the Legion Villa once a month to celebrate the birthdays with veterans.alot of them don't have family that will visit.but that is me and my husband..i have a goofy little thing,i collect rocks and gemstones.they say some gemstones have healing properties.but i have rocks from all over,i tell friends going on vacation,"bring me back a rock"my favorite ones are the petosky stones my husband and i found on the shore of Lake Michigan.(and my crystal ball) does all this count as a hobby?

Rock collecting definitely counts as a hobby! My Dad was into rocks and called himself a rock hound. I'm not a collector but I have to have rocks around--I keep a piece of amythest and a piece of obsedian on my desk at work. The amythest is supposed to give energy and the obsedian is supposed to ground me. I have little wooden bowls of rocks around just to have nature close by at all times.

I'm a post member at the American Legion too. I do some volunteering there...I was the Post Adjutant a couple of years ago but have really scaled back my activities. I love the Legion though and try to visit at least once a week. We have a trivia contest on Mondays and I'm determined to win again!

We held a cruise-in recently for a SAL who has cancer and raised over $31,000. That was great.

When I'm not on the computer or at work or the Legion I've usually got my nose in a book. I work for a company that sells books so I get a good discount...and I get to hear about all the new books early so I can put them on hold at the library.

My absolute favorite thing to do is visit powwows. I've learned a lot about my Tribe's culture this way and I'm even picking up a little of our language. If I lived closer to the Rez I'd take language class. Someday...

My favorite hobby is my grandchildren and one great granddaughter. I live with 7 of my grandchildren and that's a blast. I also do extracting for my church, typing births, deaths and marriages into a data base to be used for future genealogy. I do my own genealogy but i think I have gone as far as I can because both sets of grandparents were born overseas and I don't know the languages. I do a lot of gardening. The sun comes up in my back yard, so by noon, the sun has gone over the house and I'm in the shade. I esp like to garden in the evening because it doesn't get dark here until almost 9. I play computer card games a lot but the challenge is gone and I need something else. Maybe I'll try the Pogo games because my son seems to enjoy them a lot. I also have a rock collection from the seaside. They are so interesting. Some have fossils. Finally, I'm doing exercises for lymphedema in my left arm once a day. Doesn't take very long but I feel like I'm being proactive with my health.

I like to collect stones too. I have a meditation room and I have my stones all around the room. I also keep an amythest in every room. I only had a amythest turn black on me once. I was doing energy work on someone an I had the amythest in my pocket... the whole thing turned black.

I love going to powpows my grandfather was a medican man in his tribe. I'm irish and native american.... what a combo.

Raynedae, If you don't mind me asking what tribe are you a part of. I'm Penobscot which is from Maine or some people call the Penobscots, Abenaki...Someday I will get Maine again to see where my my family lived
