Well I had my meeting with the transplant coordiantion team today about getting myself a slightly used kidney without too many miles on it. Very informative but also kind of creepy. Once I am on the list, which chould happen in a month or so, I will be morbidly sitting around hoping for multiple car crashes on the Interstate of people who are Type O blood and have my antigen profile.

Like I said. Kinda creepy.

Of course the doctor shot down my roofie, cheep hotel room and bathtub full of ice plan to get a kidney, something about it being immoral. What does he know, he's not the one facing option three...

Option Three scares me like none other. It's the voulentary live doner option. Getting somebody to say "Sure Scott, go ahead and have 1/2 of my renal system. That's cool buddy. No, I don't want any money for it." I'm an a-hole. I don't have too many real world friends who are healthy. By and large healthy people just piss me off so I don't realy "bond" well with them.

So that means I have to go kiss a lot of healthy Type O butt to get me a kidney in less than 5 years to save my body from the strain of dialysis which statisticly gets me 15 years. Tops. Odds of option one comming through for me are not great. Lots of Type O folks need Type O parts so the demand is high and the supply is fixed.

So. How do I go about meeting new people, make freinds with them and then, casualy, ask "so, what's your blood type?" I mean, it's not like asking "what's your sign" or "what's your favorie hockey team". It's kind of a leading question. One that leads to the next question of "can I have half of your renal system?"

Grr...

I would totally give you half of mine but I am so damn sickly I dont think you would want it...you would probably walk away worse, if you walked away at all. Actually I am not type O anyway so I guess it doesnt matter. Sorry buddy. Sad I will be praying for you.

You should hold a Liver Drive! We came up with that idea when I had a cancer scare a few years ago...I was getting scared that I didnt know anyone so we were trying to think of ways to find people and thats what we came up with like a Coat Drive only bring your Type O Livers instead and hey if they want to be real generous they can bring a coat for the poor too!

I suffer from Rapid Progressive MS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Epilepsy, Migraines, Neuropathy, IBS, Narcolepsy, Arrythmia, Arthritis and too much more complete list on profile.

I'd send you one of mine...I'm type O but since they wouldn't let me donate bone marrow to my cousin or let me give blood, I doubt I'd be an ideal donor. Some silly thing about losing my spleen 23 years ago and my wonky blood. Sorry dude. I'll send a request out to the Universe that someone goes out in a blaze of glory but leaves a healthy type O kidney behind.

I tried to be a Bone Marrow Donor once but after I listed all my illnesses, yeah I was rejected with a quickness. Sad

Sorry Lock, I am not type O. I think what I would do, is speak to my pastor, priest, rabbi-whichever and try to get a drive going there. In this area, alot of churches do this type of thing. If you don't belong to one, now would be a good time to consider it. Just make sure it is the biggest, richest one in town! LOL(I know YOU get that). But seriously, something to consider. I know a young couple-mid twenties- husband needed a kidney. His own brother, who was a perfect match, would not give him a kidney at the urging NOT TO by their own mother. The wife ended up being a not so perfect match, but they did a transplant anyway. Six years later, all is well. Don't loose hope! But try to get something together. My prayers are with you.
