Well my daughter has been after me for a long time for a new animal since her hamster died last year. First i was going to go for the fish tank... but then i decided to do some research. And well i decided to go with birds. I got one for my dughter and one for my mom. There names are Sunny and Sky. I instantly fell in love with these two things. What i mean is there cherping, even when there loud and i tell em to be quiet really relaxes me. When i lay on the couch and they cherp away i almost instantly fall asleep. There also great to talk to lol. I have had a few indepth conversatons with them already. They had there wings cliped when we got them and there just not starting to fly around. There out of there cage for 2 times a day maybe 20-30 min. At first they kinda stayed away now they flutter (try to fly) to me right away. Kinda coool i tihnk

Anyone else have an animal that keeps them happy? Or find that there animals help em out?

I have kitties. With my illnesses they have been the easiest to maintain and also very lovable. They love us unconditionally and are much less to maintain and care for than a dog for those of us unable to do so. Good luck with whatever you decide. Wink

I'm happy to hear that the birds are being so theraputic already. I think animals are the best medicine in the world. We have two small dogs that are like little babies, they love to be held and cuddled. Whenever I'm feeling down, they can put a smile on my face. It's funny too, one of them is very protective and whenever me or hubby is sick or too stressed, he doesn't leave our side. It's wonderful to be blessed with them, isn't it?

animals are truly a wonderful therapy! Everyone has their own kind that works - but I really believe they bring alot of joy and peace! I've got four cats and one doggy...all who comfort me and cuddle with me when I need them!! The sound of a cat purr is to me one of the most tranquil things!

Pets (furbabies as I call them) are wonderful therapy for those of us not feeling well.

I can t remember a time that our house was without a furbaby of some sort ~~~ Right now, we have Buddy Beagle (a neighborhood rescue) and he is most sedate and comforting when hubby or I are feeling unwell.

I understand re: your birds' chirping being comforting or cheerful for you. There is nothing I like better than hearing the outside birds chirping in the sunshine. Smile

I don't know where I would be without my two loving little dogs. I am a mother (of the human kind) but having these wonderful little darlings makes me a better person. I have always had dogs and cats, but these two sisters are my babies. Even when I think I cannot face another day in this pain, I just think of them and it all seems a little less dismal. Since I am the one who takes care of them, it motivates me to get up and move when I think I cannot. I am happy to see so many of us are so loving that we can let an animal into our hearts and homes. What they give us in return is priceless!

I've had animals ever since before I got married but all of my dogs had to be kept outside per parents orders, and I've always thought that was so cruel having them chained outdoors, I never knew how neat it was to be able to love em when they lived indoors til I got married and ever since we've had dogs, mainly from the Humane Shelter, but as my children were growing up we got in to Great Danes and had them up until the last one passed away and the thing is with them being purebred their hearts are the same size as smaller dogs so life expectancy is well under 10 yrs, normally only 6 -7 and I hated that but they were so gentle with children and so comical that we at one time had 8, mom, dad, and 6 newbies in a 12 x 60 trailer along with 5 people, TALK ABOUT CROWDED!!!!!! I was never so glad to get rid of puppies as I was that year!!!!

But now I'm down to a chihuhua and 2 cat, one of the cats was my sons but his wife is horribly allergic so mum and dad got him and he's my hubbies (mean little bugger likes to bite).....But my little baby tink(chihuhua) she's so good, most of em are yippy and ankle bitters and not real goood with kids, and we've had her for 3 years in Aug, she's barked a total of 6 times and loves on any one who walks in the door, SHE'S DEFINTELY NOT A GUARD DOG!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL

I take it you have cockatiels, Kever? I have two cockatiels; male and female. I've had two cockatiels in the past, parakeets and finches. I really loved the finches; such pretty little things and their songs were so cute...peep, peep. I've had these cockatiels for two/three years now. I love them. The male doesn't always like to come to me but other times he comes flying to me...I don't put the cover on the cage unless we go away and then I need to cover them only because my little dog likes to go after them. She, I believe, broke the female's leg one time when I did not know she was looking for me(the bird) and our dog got hold of her. Sad

Our dog is wonderful and she sleeps with hubby and me. I love it when she warms my legs but she also likes to sleep between us. She is a royal pain right now because she is in heet(heat?) and is always whining. We also have a 20 gallon aquarium that I love to sit in front of just watching the fish. They are so calming to watch. My son has a leopard gecko which is cool. We've always had some kind of animal...lots of lizards and dwarf hamsters (when my daughter lived at home, she had around 30 dwarf hamsters at one time but you'd never know it cause she kept all the cages clean)

Gotta love those pets!

Janet

I have a cat who has been certified by the VA as a service animal in the state of Oregon. The VA believes that every wounded vet should have an animal companion. My counselor has certfied lots of dogs, some cats and one bird as "service animals".

Mortimer is a big clown--he's a 3 year-old Maine coon cat who is just a huge (20 lb) kitten. If it moves, he attacks, but he's incredibly gentle...one in a great while I'll attack his belly and he'll start to grab my hand with his claws but never scratches or bites. When he wants my attention he'll stand by my feet, then puts both paws front paws on my knee. If I'm still typing or talking on the phone he stretches up and gently pats me on the face with one huge furry paw.

He loves to play fetch too and will do so for hours if I let him. Of course no one else ever gets to see this as he won't perform for strangers LOL...his "job" as a service animal is to help me fight depression and he does a great job of it. When I'm upset, he comes running...he KNOWS when I'm crying or really upset even if he's sleeping in another room. I love my kitty >^.^<
