I was wondering if your country has a problem with young people and alcohol. Here in Australia there is a growing problem with teenagers binge drinking and I am talking low teens 13,14 and upwards.Today I read in the local paper that a 9 year old was picked up by the police after vomiting in the gutter and staggering along the street,he was drunk. Our governments answer is to put a tax on Alcopops but all that will do is drive them to buy the large bottles of spirits and mix their own,so I was wondering if any one else anywhere has a similar problem in their country, and what is being done to try to curb this trend. The legal age for drinking in Australia is 18 it was 21 and that didn't slow the problem.

That's always been a problem here. Underaged drinking. We had a time with my stepson when he was underaged. A friend would buy it for him and he'd provide the place where his buddies could drink. Our place. We couln't get it into his head that the parents are responsible and could be fined and jailed if the kid was having a drinking party at "his" house. That's even if the parents weren't home and didn't know what the kid was doing. They've taxed the booze and cigarettes to death and nothing happens. Kids always find a way to have fun. We've had a few kids here die because of huffing. Do they have that in Austrailia? It's where the kids get propane tanks from bbq grills and inhale it. It gets them high for a few minutes then throws them into convulsions from lack of oxygen to the brain. What fun HUH?. They did try to curb underaged smoking buy, get aload of this, making the person who is buying a cigarette lighter show their ID.

As long as someone is willing to get the beer or booze for the kids, there will always be the underaged drinking and partying.

Hi Jan yes we do have that problem though not so much with the gas the majority seem to prefer chroming and in some of the outback communities there is a problem with petrol sniffing, although they are trying to do somthing to stop that.Alchohol seems to be the drug of choice at the moment as well mas the so called party drugs.I don't know where the parents are maybe just as stoned as their kids.

Hi Kerryn, Funny you mention about the parents being just as stoned as the kids. One of our local Judges is a cocaine addict. His kid ripped some off of him a few years back and had a party of his own. One of the party goers got totally paranoid and jumped in the river to get away from the cops who weren't even chasing him. Thought he could swim to the other side. This was on New Years Eve. They found him three months after the river thawed hooked up on a tree about 50 yards from where he went in. The judges kid got charged with nothing. Last week, we had the sheriff and DEA raid the house of a family who were smoking crack with their 7 children, all under the age of 9, in the house. All the kids were put into protective custody and the parents are now in jail waiting for their sentence. Our towns minority is the Mexicans. They bring in the drugs and sell it, get arrested but they are back out on the streets a few hours later resuming their business. Everyday I read the paper and it's nothing but the Mexicans that are getting arrested for either drugs or violent crimes. Yet if one of our factories is hiring, it's the Mexicans that get the jobs because they are a minority. I told my stepson to put on his application that he was part Native American. Somewhere back in their past history was a Blackfoot Indian. you can tell it in my mother in law's looks. I wish INA would come in, round them up and send them all back where they came from. If they want to live here, then let them become Naturalized citizens like my grandpa did. Wow did I ever start ranting. LOL Sorry.

Hope you are having a good day.

Hi Jan rant all you want I think a lot of the trouble now is home related I mean that little kid where I live what in the name of god was he doing out at one in the morning with I might add two 14 year olds who were also under the weather. The alchohol is one thing but there are so many creeps out there just waiting for a chance like that,he's lucky the police did find him first. The family is now being watched by community services. We have a similar problem with immigrant workers here, the thing is though that they are willing to do the work that we won't so in that respect we have no one to thank but ourselves, the other side to the coin is that a lot of employers are happily ripping thease people off,the government tries to police it but their work force is spread so thinley it's not funny.I suppose it dosn't matter where you go no where is perfect.

No I'm not having a good day I still have the flu and I just want it to go away.
