hey everyone i'm not new to fibromyagia pain. i have lost alot of jobs due to it. I know i need to be strong so i don't let it defeat me but how do i keep myself strong when the pain is always there. I'm a strong willed stubborn person who wants to keep this great job i have now but i find myself messing up on somethings because i'm highly medicated and i work in a pharmacy so its a consent reminder of my issue.

welcome to the family.

I agree with realmseer, do memory exercises. I play games on the computer that force my mind to work fast and to think. Games like memory, scrabel, matching games, math games. they all help.

Isn't that the worst? I used to be a nurse, it was the only job I ever wanted to do and loved it. About a year after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia I had to say goodbye to nursing. I now work at home and opened an eBay store and a website store. It took awhile to get off the ground but it keeps me busy and helps to pay the bills. Sure wish I could go back to nursing though.

I think my schoolwork helps with my memory. I have alot memorizing to do,which sometimes is really hard and frustrating, but it does seem to help. I know how you feel HelenC, I too was a nurse and had to give it up, It is the only thing I ever wanted to be, for me it wasn't just a job but who I was. Glad to hear you found another way to pay the bills, that's something that this fibro makes hard.

I think that my spelling & sometime talking has been hit really hard by all of this. I cant remember how to spell things, then I have trouble sounding things out. I also stumble over my words and cant get out of my mouth what is running threw my head.

Oh boy do I know what you mean mydragonfly. Thank heavens for spell checker!. My tongue has begun spasaming(sp?) when I try to talk, I sound like I'm drunk.

Yes, I sometimes sound like a bumbling fool because I can't think of words. It has gotten worse since I started taking Lyrica, but the pain is much better. Spelling - I wouldn't know what to do without spell check. I just started a part-time administrative job this week (thought I would give it a shot due to financial problems), so I stopped taking Lyrica in the morning and only take it at night, at least until I'm fully trained anyway. Of course the downside is I'm in pain.

Ha! Try being a writer and forgetting how to spell. lol In fact, I find that I now tend to transpose my letters when I type too. Good thing I mostly edit now. Still though, it is embarrassing (and depressing) to be in a job where my writing skills need to be top notch but I see them slowly slipping away.

As far as memory goes, I have given up on that. I just write everything down.
