My aerobic exercise is walking to the kitchen to make coffee and then back to my bed to recover. Whew! That was quite a workout! Anyhow, welcome from one Kat to another.

Actually, I got the name katrab from my mother. I loved kittens and she said I jumped up and down all the time like a rabbit. So thats the story on that. Thanks for the welcome. I get so darn mad when someone i.e. doc's tell me to exercise more and I will lose weight. I could scream when they do that. I used to exercise when I wasn't sick. If only I could only exercise like I used to. Even just one day of normal-ness would mean the world to mean. Hope I'm not on a rant here but it seems like the medical world just doesn't know much about so many diseases/ailments we folks suffer with.

Hi Kat,

I am also new here. Your message about exercise really got me. I also hate when the doctors tell me to exercise. I try everyday to do a little more, but just trying to keep my house clean is so hard. I have to do a little and sit down for break. My meds make me tired, so it seems I never accomplish anything. I use to love to walk but now that just causes more pain. It is never ending.

Hope we can help each other to find a solution. Wouldn't that be great!!

Good luck

Lisa & Isabelle

Dear Lisa and Isabelle:

Speaking of trying to get exercise.....I can't walk much or do kick-boxing and all the things I once loved so I tried to think of a way to just move the old parts around a little. So I decided to try 'bed' exercises (not what you're thinking!) I just sort of move legs and arms up and down a little and stretch out and stuff like that...and it's really low impact since it's only on a mattress. It probably sounds a little silly but desperate times call for desperate measures. I love this sharing stuff with all of you. I makes me feel good. Thanks for listening.

I used to take long walks in the evening with my husband and it seemed to help a lot with my pain. However, in March I caught mono and it really made my fibro much worse. I spent a month and a half in bed and now just walking to the kitchen makes my legs hurt really bad.

I also have a new bike that I have only ridden twice because one lap around the neighborhood and I can't walk up the steps to get in the house.

I had been doing yoga but now even the simplest stretches feel like my muscles are being ripped to sheds. My kayak feels unloved now too. At least the kids have fun with it.

Hopefully I can work back up to some things again.

Right after I was diagnosed, my doc told me to join the gym and I would get better. At the time I did not know any better. So I went every day for 2 week. Then I spent 32 days in the hospital. I wanted to send the doc the bill for the cost of a gym membership I could no longer use.

The docs who reommend strenuous(sp?) exercise obviously don't really undrstand what this is like. I had a rheumy send me to physical therapy, so ignoring the voices in my head I went for 2 appointments. When I had to be carried in to the house I decided I was done. Now my aerobic workouts consist of mopping the kitchen floor, after which I take a nap.
May life always bring you laughter.
