I am a former athlete who until 17 months ago was in great shape and very active. I biked between 50 and 80 miles a week, kayaked, hiked and- well you get the picture. I then had an episode (bad chest pain) that I thought was a heart attack- it wasn't. From that point on a variety of symptoms have appeared. I have undergone so many tests and many more than once, that I think I could do some of them myself. . My neurologist now wants me to see another neurologist and the parade of doctors goes on and on. Fibro has been mentioned as the only thing left that it could be but is not the offical "diagnosis"at this point in time. I am thankful that it wasn't one of the many things I feared it was over the last 17 months- so now I am trying to learn as much as I can on how to deal with this. Any support or information would be greatly appreciated.

I comepletely understand, I used to be pretty active myself. Not as active as you are but I did workout pretty hard everyday. I hate being limited in what I can do now because of my pain and tired muscles. Like you I have been to a couple of doctors w/ no offical diagnosis. I had an MRI done yesterday and I am awaiting the results. I've found that ice and also warm baths have really helped me. I've only really been dealing with this for only 6 months. Being apart of this support group has really helped me.

Hi, I have been dealing with this stuff most of my life. The best piece of advise I can give you is don't stop moving. Walk, bike, swim in a warm pool, just move. I am on muscle realxers, anti-inflamitorants, anti-depressants, and pain killers. I try to do yoga, and nin-jin-jytusu which is a form of accupressure. Good luck and welcome to both of you. I have found this site only a few months ago myself and have learned more here than any doctor could ever tell you.

I hear you...

I was diagnosed in 1999 and it took 3 years to get a DX. I took it to 3 Specialists and they all said the same thing....Fibro!

So, here I am today...I start each day out...just trying to get out of bed and seeing how long I can STAY out of it! I used to be very active. I didn't hike, bike etc....but I did work out, work hard and loved to play softball. Now, I can't even throw a softball for fear I'll pull a muscle, throw my shoulder out or just plain HURT!

It takes a while to learn what you can and cannot do...and it's hard, but you have to do it. It's the only thing that YOU can control when it comes to how much pain you're going to be in the next day. As Smiley said...WALK, BIKE, DO WHAT YOU CAN DO!! Don't give it up if there's ANY hope that you can still do it. IT IS WHAT YOU NEED! No, I'm not a doctor but I have dealt with this for soo long, I can say...KEEP ON MOVING IS THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO! For example, my pain doc told me to "Do what you can, one dance at a time". I used to dance...and I mean DANCE! But, I had to quit and one day at an appt. I was telling him how much I missed dancing. (as I was in total tears and heartache) He told me to turn on the music as loud as I wanted to in my living room and dance to ONE SONG, EVERY DAY!! "Start with one and work your way up", he told me.

I'm still not dancing anywhere other than my living room, but my point is...

I CAN DO IT! Not HOW I want to...or WHERE I want to....but I CAN!!

Keep your chin up and keep plugging away...we're all here for you too!!

Suzee- thanks- I have kept on keeping on- and as you well know every day is a new challenge. I have some information that you might also be interested in about a new clinical study for fibro taking place in Renton WA.

Welcome JaScott. Yep, Fibro sucks big time. I think I've had it since age 12. It came on full force when I had a fusion in my spine. My doctor says that the worst thing you can do to a Fibromite is to operated on them. I was diagnosed with Osteo Arthritis for 10 years. You have to take control of The Monster or it will take over your life. My motto is Fake It Til You Make it.

You're in very good company.
