When I had a real bad neck spasms a few years ago, before the surgery,my doc at the time gave me valium and he said it is the best muscle relaxer that you can use. Sounds like I am going to have to ask the doc about trying it again for this $%^%%#! neck pain. The soma is not working....

Soma for the pain? They gave me Soma for awhile and told me it was to relax the muscles from the inflammation but that the only way it would ease the pain is by reducing the inflammation first. But to come back in a week and I'd probably have to get something then for the pain.

Have you tried heat on it KY? Heat helps mine, and my tens unit used at the top of the shoulder areas. And what's really good is heat then a massage, if you have someone who can, if not I usually rub as much as I can until my hands/arms just can't any longer. But even that little bit helps, then I go back to heat.

I hope you get to feeling better. I know when my neck hurts, I'm really bad. Do you use a good Chiropractor?

Wildfire, have you ever tried myofascial massage. I had horrible pain in my neck and shoulders and couldn't move my head from side to sside. This was several years ago. I went to a physical thearpist who did this type of massage and after several treatments I got better. I would have kept seeing him for the rest of my body but he got too friendly so I just stopped going. I am hoping to find someone else because it really helped and best part, no new drugs.

Regarding the TENS unit. I Love it and have the one with the double A rechargable batteries. The last few days have been wearing all day and most of the evening and it has never run out on me. A few years ago I had an older model and that one was nothing like the ones now. Most ins co will pay for them if they are prescribed by dr. I highly recommend it and like others say with moist heat, or cold. My son who has a torn acl alos likes to use it on his leg to keep the other muscles from stressing out.

I don't know if any of you use Ebay or not but, before, i could get a dr. to prescribe a tens unit for me I went to ebay and ordered one for myself. I thought perhaps the one on ebay was not as good as the tens unit you had to get a prescription for but, really I find no differnece in it now that I do have one with a prescription.

They both work the same way. The only difference is one is made a bit less medical looking and that is the one on ebay. The one from the dr. has a belt clip which is nice but, I used a shoulder hoster for my one I got on ebay and no one knew I was using it.

Hey when I first stared have this pain and didn't know what it was I was going to bingo everyday. I would put that tens unit in the shoulder hoster and put on a light weight jacket and no one knew I was wearing a tens unit. I sure enjoyed the game that way. I had no pain while I was wearing that unit.

I don't go to bingo now since I got saved I guit all gambling. I still love to play bingo but, I won't play for money I just play for fun on the internet. There is nothing wrong with the game just the gambling of it for money. lolololol

Anyway, if you can't get a prescription for a tens unit. Try Ebay just do a search for tens unit and there you go. They are great and just as good as the ones you get from the dr. lots cheaper too if you have no insurance. Mine only cost about 29 dollars compared to 150 dollars for the prescription one from the dr.

This is a little box that has small stick on pads that you put on your skin. wires are connected to the pads and attached to the unit. The unit is only the size of a ipod or a small radio.

When you turn on the tens unit is send electrical impulses to the nerves that block the pain you are having. You can use this to stimulate muscles too.

you can use this on your arms, legs, back, neck where ever you are having pain. Some of them your dr. can prescribe for you and if you have insurance it should pay for it. However, if you don't have insurance the unit cost about $150 dollars unless you get them on ebay or at some medical supply house that will sell them without a prescription.

They are very good at blocking pain and easy to use. you can turn up the pain level or make is lower if the pain is not as bad. Just don't do what I did the first time i used it.

I wore mine to church and during the service i hit the wheel that adjusted the amount of stimulation it gives. All of a sudden my arm and neck went totally stiff. I could not move them. It didnt hurt they just went numb or stiff. lolololol The man sitting behind me knew something was wrong and leaned forward to ask if I needed help. I said yes. could you please poke my husband and get his attention for me. Jim then knew what happened and helped me adjust the stimulation wheel without to much notice from others. lolololol It took all I could do not to burst out laughing once all was ok again. other than the man behind me I don't think anyone else even noticed. lolololol I mean I could not move my arm or neck at all during the time it was on full stimulation it paralized me totally in that spot. lolololol

just make sure you know how to use it properly before you use it out side of the home. lolololol

It's electro stimulation, and it's awesome. Go to www.empi.com and look in pain management.
