Hi everyone! I am so very glad to see that there are more options available to fibro patients. I have battled for years and self medicated with alcohol to make the pain go away as every dr I went to told me it was all in my head. Then I stumbled upon my Dr that I have now and he immediatly diagnosed me with fibro. I broke down and cried when he told me. Every question he asked me was a resonding YES! Finally a name to what my problem was. Now with proper medication and warm physical therapy swimming I feel much better. I am still physically challenged but I no longer self medicate and realize when its a good day and when its not. I miss the things I used to do but have replaced them with other things that I enjoy. I am happy to be able to find a web site that is understanding and helpful.

welocme Yes, self medicating, I'm sure we've all been there in some way or another. I'm glad some doctors are starting to see what fibro is, that it's not a "psychosomatic" illness. Even so, many that I've seen since my dx....like my gyno, has tried to put me on antidepressants, insinuating that it's all hormone related. ha. Won't be going back to her. I'm lucky to have found a great GP as well, within minutes of talking to him, he dx me with fibro and MCTD, sent me to a rheumy to get a second opinion....now how good is that...the doc actually sent me for a second opinon!

Feel free to share your thoughts.

Hi Carolyn and welcome. I am also new to the group. My name is Janice. I have had fibro for about 13 years. It gets easier knowing that your not crazy but it is still a daily challange dealing with the disease.

I really like what you said about missing what you use to be able to do but you have replaced it with new things... that you can do. That is the key to surviving. It took me many years to find new things that I like, but I have.

Welcome and thanks for sharing, it may help more people than you even know.

Have a great day!

Janice

I was happy when my GP made the referral for a second opinion and additional treatment by a Rheumy that specializes in Fibro. I had actually tried a search of my area of docs specializing in Fibro and out of all the docs in my city, only 3 showed up on the search, one of which was this Rheumy's name! I'm excited!
