Hi to all. I'm new to the support group and wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Janice and I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue (CF)about 19 years ago and Fibro almost 13 years ago. I was never disabled, work wise that is, from the CF but I was from the Fibro.

I was off work for almost 10 years. I was in bed most of the time. I really thought I was going to die. I then started to feel better so I returned to work. I did work for almost three years, about 2 1/2 years to long. I was okay working for about 6 months but I kept on going working. In June 07 I decided to take 12 weeks off of work and try to get my body back under control. It's now October and I'm still off work. It's not better, in fact I feel worse. I'm wiped. I am now back on the multiple drugs, just different names with some different effects, and I worked soooo hard to eliminate some of them.

At the suggestion of my wonderful primary doctor I'm going back to see the Pain Management doctor for his input. I'm so bummed. I wish that I would have predicted this. I gave up Social Security 3 years ago. I'm so scared that I can't get it again. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

I have a husband of 21 years that is a wonderful man. I have 3 daughters 21, 17 and 14. My hubby is emotionally supportive but he can't help me. He is as disabled, if not more, than I am. He is suffering from a muliple-level failed back surgery from L3-4 to L5-S1.He now has recurring herniated discs. L3-4 is 10mm, L4-5 is 7.5mm and the L5-S1 is 4-5mm. He has back pain but the disabling part of this is his left leg pain, or should I say "He's plugged into a light soccet right now". He can hardly even walk to the bathroom, cane assisted of course. The leg gives out on him when he is brushing his teeth, going potty and forget about standing in the shower that is pure hell.

He is either on the bed or on the couch. He needs constant attention. We have not found a drug out there that is helping with the leg pain. He's on Neurontin at this point but were still trying to get him to a theraputic level. He is currently at 1500 mg and building.

I find that I'm relating to both of those on the board that are in pain, feeling depressed and wanting the answers and I'm also relating to those that are greiving for the ones that are in the pain, feeling depressed and and having such a hard time with the huge toll that it takes on your whole world. I'm in both the inside looking out, and the outside looking in, it's really hard. I'm feeling confused, sad, lonely for my best friend and I would do anything to help him, and myself.

So, I just keep going and doing while I feel like I want to collapse, which I probably will do shortly. I'm not sure where this all is going to end up. Any suggestions to help me get a balance?

Thanks for listening,

Janice

Hi! I'm so sorry to hear about your difficult times. It's hard enough when you are in chronic pain, but your husband also. You must be a strong lady! You already have my respect and admiration. I wanted to welcome you to our site. You will love it here. Everyone is very nice and understanding. Feel free to vent or ask questions! One thing that has help me with my pain is an Alpha-Stim Unit. You may want to google it or go to www.alpha-stim.com or call 1-800-FOR-PAIN. It has really helped me! I use it at Physical Therapy. I'm getting ready to purchase one. My insurance will cover 80% and I'll pay 20%. WELCOME! WELCOME! WELCOME!

Welcome to our cyber-family, Janice. I think we can all identify with frazzled! I'm Jenni. I was misdiagnosed with Osteo-Arthritis for about 10 years. I have fibro, cfs and depression. I also have a fusion at C-5 and C-6 in my neck. I was off work for 8 weeks trying to get on top of the stress, pain, fatigue. I thought I did well. I've only worked 6 days and I hurt like I did before. Aquatic Therapy has helped me to work on strength. I continue to go to AT in the evenings.

I'm glad you're here. You're among friends. Really good people.

Jenni

My disabling chronic illness is more real than your imaginary medical expertise.

Hi Jenni,

I noticed you said you had neck surgery c-5 and c-6 with fusion.Just curious, did you have and allograft bone, titanium plate and screws or did the use bone from your hip. I had the same surgery done and an allograft bone was used and my doctor now says that my body is rejecting the allograft bone and it would have been better if they had used my own bone from my hip. I have found in talking to other people that the ones who used there own bone did alot better tha those of us that used allograft bone. Please let me know when you get a chance

Thanks,

Sherry

Hi Janice and welcome. I'm still pretty new here to and I love it. The support and understanding here is amazing. It sounds like you got a double whammy and you must be one strong ladly to handle all of this. I can't imagine dealing with not only your own illness but that of your husbands also. If there is anything you need, or just want to vent don't hesitate to write.

Hi. Thanks so much for the warm welcome from all.

Well, today is a really challanging day. My left foot and ankle don't want any weight put on them and my right knee is swollen, crunchy and doesn't want to bend. This makes it hard to even get down and up from the toilet, lol.

I should have moved the hose from the front yard to the back yard yesterday, when I could walk a little easier, instead of putting it off for today.

This is going to make for a really long day. I think I need some hydro on this ol' bod, maye that will recharge my battery.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Talk to you all a little later.

Janice

I just got through a spell like you are speaking of. My right foot and ankle were not tolerant to any kind of activity. It felt like a sledge hammer had crushed all the bones in my foot and my ankle was swollen off and on for about a week! It's no fun and yes, it was a struggle to get through each day and NIGHT to get any kind of rest, housework, or personal care done...all I wanted to do was keep it elevated, but only if nothing was touching my calf skin! Ugh, the joys of Fibro. I finally bit the bullet and put my foot on ice off and on for about 3 hours...that was the only thing that provided me with any type of relief. I hope that you can find some relief for yourself in some way...
