[b] Hello everyone. I have just ran across this site while doing some research and thought I would try to get educated from you guys. Please forgive me in advance if I ramble on. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 1 1/2 years ago. I have taken so many drugs, I cannot count. I am currently on Lyrica, relafon for arthritis and a muscle relaxer. I had a minor fall a year ago and broke my leg really bad and had to have a rod and screws put in. Two weeks ago, I had surgery to remove the rod and screws because I kept have severe pain in my leg. After several test, my doctor finally decided, removing the hardware would help and she was right. She decided to check my vitamin D levals and I just found out today that my levels were very low and I got a prescribtion for Vit D 50,000 units taking one everyday for 7 days, then one capsule two times next week, then 1 capsule weekly and I have to go back in a month to get it checked again.

My Rheumatologist did not check for Vitamin D levels and now I see all these articles about Vitamin D deficiency and FMS. My first reaction was that I was angry to learn that all this pain, could have been avoided with a simple test. My Rheummy is about 75 years old, so she is probably old school and not up to date? I don't know. My question to you is can it be true that regulating Vitamin D levels help with Fms, chronic pain, and depression?????

Penny

My husband went to the doctor last Friday and was told he was very deficient on Vitamin D. But our doctor gave him (4) pills ~ taking 1 pill per week for a month. His pills too are 50,000IU. But you take this dose every day? Hmmm... I know that vit D is very important to us 'fibbies'. Sorry I can't be of more help to you!

my Rhuemmy is young very young she only give advice on over the counter meds.... I thought that was pretty dumb but alot of the things she told me to avoid seemed to help a little like white flour. I thought to my self white flour (lady everything has white flour in it) but i cut down on my intake and it seemed to help as far as vitamin D. i have heard that it helps, but then again i heard about a million other things that i tried also. Just be careful about the dose because i know that you can get to much vitamin D in your system. To keep myself from over dosing on vitamins i try to find other sources i can get everything i need. For the last year or so i have been logging everything that i take down and the time peroid to see what helps the best. Some things take longer to show in your system so its best to get a liquid form of whatever you can take. I take flaxseed in a liquid form.

Hello and Welcome to the Fibros Penny!!

I'm sorry to hear you've had to join all of us here now that you have FMS. However, we all benefit from one another so it's good to have you aboard !

As far as Vit. D or any other supplements. Everyone here probably has tried one thing or another and many things together. Each has to figure out what helps them or not. I'm not sure with Vit. D. All you can do is try. However, I agree with another person (?) who said about the dosage. If I'm not mistaken, I think vitamin D can build up in your system. Just in case as with any other vitamin, check up online and see whats a safe doseage just incase, ok? Let us all know if it helps or not.

I hope you all have a good nite (if possible) and wake up feeling half way decent....we can dream can't we ?

A pharmisist is a great one to ask also. You dont even need to leave your home you can call any pharmacy. Most of the time they are more nowledgeable then the doctors on that.
