Hello, I'm new to this group and I wanted to introduce myself, my name is Linda and I'm 59 years old, 2 grown sons, 1 granddaughter, 1 lhasa apso, Hana, 1 husband of 41 years. I love to play tennis and play 3 to 4 times a week. I live in nw arkansas, by way of several other places. I was diagnosed with fibro over 15 years ago and I've had bouts with it but it's been under control. About 3 years ago I had problems with my left leg, I had to drag it everywhere, I had to stop doing anything, they did every test in the book for it and found nothing, I've seen 3 foot specialists and finally the last one says, I think your problem may be coming from your fibro, can you believe that, after all that money I spent? Crazy!! Anyway my left big toe is numb and the other toes come and go, my feet and legs ache all the time, especially after, sitting in a movie, or dinner or just sitting over say 40 min, I'm stiff all over and it's like my feet don't want to move, if that makes any sense. I hope that I can get some help here. The foot doc wants me to go on 50mg Lyrica and see how that does, but the weight thing scares me, I like to eat and I don't need to get any heavier!!! I'm on gabapentin, effexor 300 mg, difuc something for inflammation and I'm not sure any of it is working, one day I'll wake up and I'll be fine the next everything is wrong with my world, I hate these feeling but I don't seem to be able to control them anymore. Any help or advice is welcome and I look forward to getting to know all of you. This is a rotten disease especially since most docs don't even recognize it!!! I feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with it, that's for sure!!! Thanks for listening. Linda

Thanks Honey, do you have diabetes? What are some of your issues if you don't mind telling me?? Sorry about the fingers and foot, what does the doc say about that? Linda

Hey there, most of my most recent posts have been about my right foot! It's been absolutely nothing less than excruciating for the past few days. It's the type of pain that has brought tears to my eyes and yelps at the slightest touch! I've been on Gabapentin for about 3 weeks, but from what I hear that's not long enough, but NOTHING, I mean NOTHING, has even taken an edge off of it! Besides the other pains I have, this foot pain is like nothing I have ever experienced in the last 6-7 years since my diagnosis. Glad you are here...the best thing now is to have support and know you are not alone until they find something that works for us as individuals!

hi! i'm lori. i also have a lhasa named alley. i also had numbness in my foot. they found a morton neuroma in my right foot. i received several cortisone injections which were painful. i eventually agreed to have orthonics made especially for my feet. i still had numbness but with me having one leg longer that the other they helped with my hip pain i was having. i started on lyrica about one month ago and have had pretty good luck with it. my dose is much higher 150 mg twice a day. i was suffering with severe leg and lower back pain. it has releived the leg pain but not the lower back pain. so i continue to take it. welcome to the group. if you need someone to talk to were here.

Hi Lori, thanks for the welcome. I also have morton neuromas on both of my feet, my toes are beginning to pull apart which I just love with my sandals!!! NOT!!! Anyway I can live with those crappy things, I did have one cortisone shot and it wasn't bad but it really didn't do anything. My real problem is my legs and feet, they ache, my legs especially!! I'm just not sure whether I should switch from the gabapentin to the lyrica??? I've got my doubts about this??? I don't think anything is going to work completely, that's just my opinion!!! I always need someone to talk to, I have to have it!! Friends are very important to me!!! Thanks again. Linda http://www.mdjunction.com/components/com_joomlaboard/ emoticons/ermm.png

Thanks for the welcome. Where does your pain come from in your foot?? I've been taking the gabapentin for over a year now but I'm not sure it works, the foot doc that I saw told me the dose wasn't high enough? I'm not sure whether I should switch from that to the lyrica, any suggestions?? Thanks, Linda

How many MG's of the Gabapentin are you on now? If you want to know about Lyrica, send a message to "pondering reality". She will probably post to this forum once she signs on b/c she's a big fan of Lyrica! Gabapentin is like the "starter" drug for us FM patients...the dosage can be increased and usually is increased dependent upon the person...personally, I hurt too darn bad to wait another 3 weeks for something to "kick in" and even then the dosage I'm on may or may not work.

I'm not really sure where the pain in my foot comes from b/c it comes and it goes like the pains in my legs do. But, they are constantly in pain, just more some days than others. For the past 2 weeks, my foot has been feeling like I'm walking on pins n needles, it almost feels like it should be hot, red, swollen, etc. but there are no outward signs of something wrong. My toes get really stiff and I can't spread them out like on the other foot. My leg really hurts as well. I've had chronic hip pain for about as long as I have had Fibro and no one can find any hip damage. They were contemplating a hip replacement b/c I go from time to time dragging that leg b/c of all the pain.

i switch to lyrica when it was approved by the fda for fibro. i took gabapentin for some time but i didn't have much success with it. i don't think we ever got the doseage correct. from what my dr said they are both about the same except lyrica is alot stronger in less dosage. the cost is higher for the lyrica because its new. my pain in my foot was just below my third and fourth toe. it felt like i was walking on a marble. i've learned that nerve damage is caused by low b-12 levels so if you haven't had it checked already i would recommend having it checked. low b levels can do alot of damage. mine was low so i started having b-12 shots to improve it.

I was taking 200 mg of gabapentin but the foot doc told me to increase it to 300 mg so I've been taking that for a week now?? I'm like you I can't describe my pain, it hurts inside, outside, bottom, top, I know it sounds crazy but I just can't explain it?? I think I'm going to talk to my doc and see if I should increase the gabapentin or if she thinks the lyrica would be better?? It's all a gamble!!! I'm sorry you are hurting and I understand about not wanting to wait, you get to that point!!! Thanks for the info. I'll send pondering reality a post.
