I am a writer, well put it this way I use to be a (when I still could spell) writer/artist/clothing designer. NOW I am just sick all the time, I am sure that is vocation now since my only source of income is SSDI.

Back in the day, I use to believe that humour was tradgedy plus time, or at least I was told that.

However, I do love to laugh it seems to be the only thing I can still do that is positive, and has no side effects, and does not leave you overweight. Tradgedy plus time, well I have a lot of both of those, Tradgedies, and A LOT of TIME. Anyway I could be babbling or it could be the flu, that I acquired overnight, or maybe I am attempting to justify why I have a closet full of pills that I do not and cannot take.

I guess what I am saying my life is kind of funny, if you look at sideways, and upside down, even though from the moment I was conceived it was down hill, some of my horrible life hasn't been just fibro, but it sure is a rotten cherry on the top.

hmmm... this posting isn't funny at all. lol.

I guess I am saying laughing at myself relieves the pain, thinking about the pain, for just a few minutes. I think you can't be laughing and hurting at the same time.

blah blah, I don't what I saying.

I am just trying on something new, that doesn't cause side effects.

Ann,

I think you are on to something... A lot of people I know with chronic conditions use humor to help them keep going. Yep, my therapist and I have found my problems started by the time I was 3 years old.....won't go into family details -- finally ending up with the crazy FM and PTSD, and some other fun things!! I find that I have always been the silly one who used humor to help myself and others around me feel better. If I can laugh, it does seem to make time stop if only for a short while....enough for me to enjoy the moment. These moments keep me going...I think we can help each other have more of these moments! Besides....your right....no side affects!!

Lots of HUGS and LAUGHS to you all... Red

Yeah, it is Tuffy that gave me the idea, with "Clutters Last Stand." I am looking around now, today, for things that funny instead of counting the different places that hurt.

Please share some of your findings with us! I, for one, can always use a good laugh. There are days when I am at my worst that someone will send me a funny email and I will have my first smile of the day and it seems after that, I can't wait to open the next email to see if it will shed another ray of brightness, no matter how small.

It is proven that laughter is the best medicine and I too agree that sometimes the laughter is what you look forward too. I really think that if we all just look at what we have around us we can get a laugh. I have two puppies and they are always doing something that they shouldn't but I do laugh before I try to stop them. Right now they are trying to dig to China and not in just one place but in two. If you say anything they just double their digging so they are going full speed until you get out there and stop them. I looked out this morning and Abby our light golden had her head all the way down in the hole and all you could see was her body from her front legs back. Like she was playing hide and go seek and she was counting. I have to fill that hole in before my husband sees it, but it is funny although he likes his yard to look good. The other day I put a mouse trap in the hole and Abby found it and hit it with her paw and jumped back when it went off so I thought oh good found something that will stop the digging. I went out and filled in the hole and reset the trap later looked out the hole was back and the trap was gone. Found the trap in the living room. So much for being smarter than a dog. Jean

Oh my! That was so cute! Thank you for sharing that. Being a pet lover and having my best friend and pet and often reason for continuing Jett, I can relate to how they make us smile often. As I type, Jett is behind me in my chair, curled up against my back where it is hurting, snoring. He loves to get into that spot lately and it really can make me feel better knowing he senses my sadness and pain and gets close as if trying to ease it. At night, he has taken to curling up in the crook of my knees and if I move him over or anything, he kinda makes a grunting noise as if to say, "mom, what do you think you are doing? I was soooo comfy there!" I could go on and on about my little buddy and honestly don't know what I would do without him so much of the time.

I think that we should start a thread on the wild and crazy things our pets do so we all could laugh and share the wonderful life that our animal family does. Shadow our son's german shepherd/black lab just put her squeeky pink pig on my laptop and put her head in my lap waiting for me to throw it. I can't think of anything better in our lives to make us laigh and feel loved then our furry family. Jean

I believe you are right about laughter being the best medicine.........I got to thinking about that the other day,so I put a few video clips I found on "youtube" onto my "myspace" page. One is a clip from "Young Frankenstein" ....the ("puttin' on the ritz" scene ) and one of a baby laughing. I'm going to look for more,,so then I'll always have a laugh handy. If I'm gonna have tears and muscle aches, I'd rather it be from laughing hard............

The actual line (according to Carol Burnett, who attributes the source to Charlie Chaplin) is "Comedy is tragedy plus TIMING."

Maybe my dog's timing is off, because he never makes me laugh.

When I read the first post, it crossed my mind that pets are an excellent, quick way to find laughter - unless the pet is the Doberman dog my son dropped on us.

Normally, I'm a huge animal lover. I've raised orphans from mice to raccoons. I have an automatic monthly contribution to the ASPCA. I've volunteered at shelters and gone out of my way dozens of times for animals.

But this dog -- I try to love that dog, but everything he does irritates me. He is simply in the wrong body. Not the dog I would choose for myself. I'm fond of him and I take good care of him, but we are not a match made in heaven. Too big and strong for me to control - but I walk him twice a day. Sheds constantly - so I clean up after him twice a day but let him live in the house as he pleases.

He is a male, which means he does all kinds of sniffy icky licky things. He drips. I mop and shampoo carpets. I've had him for 8 years - since about three months after my son decided he needed a macho dog and immediately discovered he couldn't take care of it.

Yesterday he peed on my leg while I was opening the gate for our walk. At least, thank God, he didn't pee on a bush. He has lethal pee, and everything it touches dies, except maybe my leg won't, since it isn't a bush or a tree or a flower. I waded into the pool fountain, shoes and all, to wash it off. I thought it didn't matter if I got my shoes and pants wet, since they were dripping pee already.

The dog is asleep beside my chair right now, and I just wish I could give him the accepting affection he deserves.

I'm still trying to find my way around this group's website, and cannot find the thread on pets. Anyway, here's a picture of Kaiser the Doberman playing with my Kiesha, a chow-keeshound mix.
