My dogs are the best floor cleaners around. The second something is dropped its picked up. In fact you can never drop enough around our house to please them. I also found out that if you keep the blinds shut that you don't see the dirty windows and then when the sun goes to the other side I can open up the blinds snd I don't see the dirt. Wish that worked really but I keep thinking one of these days I will never really care. Life's too short to worry about a wonderful clean house and in 50 years is any one going to care, NO. When I die I want my marker to say she lived the best life she could and cared for every living thing and was a not a Martha Stewart. She had a life. Jean

psk,

I love your sign!! I think I will make one up for my house!! My inlaws house is always perfect...I hate when they come over to mine unexpectedly. MIL said once she wished she could just leave dirty dishes in the sink...but it would bother her too much. I wish I didn't take these comments so personally. But I do. I used to have a clean house, so now sometimes I just want to cry when I look at it. I do know that just a quick pick-up of the clutter makes me feel better. Even if I don't feel like vacuuming or scrubbing floors....if things just aren't lying all over the place it looks better. I try to do at least one thing every day....other than the stuff I have to do everyday anyhow -- dishes, laundry. The rest just has to wait.

I have a magnet that has that saying on it. My mom bought it for me when everyone was calling me lazy. Now it's not so offensive lol. Oh she also bought me this tea pot that has a tea bag hanging out of it and it read, women are like tea bags, they don't know their strength until they're in hot water, I really like the tea bag one lol.

These are some really great tips everyone!

I have a magnet on my refrigerator that reads "My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance." It couldn't be more true now with the fibro. LOL! Seriously though, the only way to get it done is to pace yourself and try not to sweat the small stuff.

Red2, I would have told MIL that it didn't bother me one bit. One time my oldest daughter came over and she looked up at the ceiling fan and said, "boy, look how dirty your fan is" ( she'd mentioned it before too.) I said to her "well, you're younger than I am, wait a minute. I'll get you some soap and water and you can clean it because it bothers you." She didn't clean it but she never mentioned it again either. I clean what I can when I can and that's just the way it is.

I like to take my blinds down and put them in the tub. Then squirt some dish soap on them then turn on the shower. If you have a shower head that detached, use it to spray the blinds down. the turn over and spray again. I have been known to put them back up wet. LOL

Thanks maineiac! Yep, my ceiling fan has about an inch of dust on it!! Oh well, I feel better knowing I'm not alone. I just hate people thinking I must just be too lazy to clean since I'm home all day (now that I can't work). Maybe they don't think that....I just get that feeling. I would like to replace my carpet with wood flooring. I think that would be easier to clean since I wouldn't have to vacuum. Maybe one day I can do this.

One tip...when folding towels, or anything else. I sit on the bed and lay them in front of me. I just fold them without picking them up. Anything that makes me hold up my arms wears me out. Also if you keep a towel handy to dry out the sink, tub, mirror after brushing teeth, or shower right after using it seems to help it stay clean longer....so I don't actually have to scrub them so often. You can get a bright color towel and designate it for family to know it's the "drying" towel.

Maybe this will help someone. Sometimes the little things help the most.

Sending hugs to all!! Red

I really love the 'close the blinds/drape' theory! My Mom always called it the 'Lived In' look! Or my little sign I have that says 'Dust is a Country Accent' !! Oh Red..I too ripped out the carpet and laid down dark wood floors years ago...and oh...I'll NEVER do that again! I'll hook up a harness to my Samoyed dog, yell 'Mush' and let him pull the vacuum across the living room before I deal with wood floors again. As I sit here, I can see that pile of laundry. Darn..it just won't move! Oh well, its sunny out today so I'm gonna go play in the dirt.

Hey Tuffy,

What happened with the wood floors that made you wish you had not put them in?? I'm just curious.... I had the old wood floors that you had to polish and buff. Those are trouble to keep buffed, but not hard to dust clean. The newer wood floors are not supposed to need all the polishing and buffing.... so, let me know so I can decide whether this is a good idea or not. Sure don't want anything worse... Carpet also kills my allergies....so I really need a substitute for carpet. You guys have such good ideas for those little "signs"!! Love them all! Thanks red
