Last summer I tore a tendon in my groin and had a breast reduction. During the healing time the docs gave me as many pain pills as I needed. Once healed and more areas in pain, lots of tests, MRI, scans etc. they marked it up as possible pain pill addiction and told me to get lost. With absolutely no help, I lost my job and back to the doctor I go. Finally got sent to a rheumatologist who thoroughly evaluated and diagnosed me with FMS. Started me on a few meds that some helped, some didn't so I'm still in the process of finding the right combo for me.

Since the dx the other doctors are no longer treating me as an addict, but still don't want to prescribe anything for me. So questions:

1. How long did it take you to be able to take pain pills for the horrible days?

2. What's the difference between trigger points and tender points?

Pain management just started injections 2 weeks ago in my tender points of my back. I do notice some relief but I've read it's not good to inject tender points.?

Welcome to the group and I hope that you will feel right at home with all of us. Now I am not a doc. but to me the trigger points is certain areas that they check for fibro. and Tendor points are the areas that you are most tender at. They inject your tender spots to try to help you with the pain. Some of us who has had fibro for quite awhile still is trying to get the right combinations of meds. You can go for awhile on one combination and then your body gets adjusted to those meds. ao you have to try to find more. I hope that this will help you and if you have anymore questions just ask and someone will help.

{{Soft & Gentle Hugs}} to you.

Rita

Welcome to the group!

Here is an article regarding the differences between trigger and tender points.

http://www.sover.net/~devstar/TrPs_and_TPs.pdf

As for pain meds, there really isn't any answer to when they will give them to you. Some doctors are very liberal with pain pills and some are not. Since you are in pain management, they will determine when or if, you are given pain pills.

In my opinion, try to survive as long as you can without them as they add a whole new set of problems to deal with and tend to reduce pain tolerance. There are a host of alternative medicine options out there. I would try them (if you can afford them) before going the pain pill route.

I'm not a doc or nurse either, but I thought that they were supposed to use trigger point injections on tigger points. Tender points are simply an area on FM patients that are usually more sensitive than others where a trigger point refers pain to another part of the body. The article link above explains it better than I do.

BTW, the book written by the author of the article, provides a wealth of information.

Anyway, I hope you find the answers you need.

Hi and welcome to the group! My sons name is Kaidin too, but I obviously spell it different lol.

About when you will get pain meds. Well it really depends on the doctor.I personally have been trying to get something for pain releife for more than a year for my Arhthritis and Fibromyalgia. I will say this much don't stay with a doctor who tells you to just learn to live with the pain because it's not likely that you will be able to do so.Your going to have to form a team with your doctors and work together. They probably wont try you out on narcotic pain meds at first because some things have like Lyrica and Cymbalta really do help people with Fibro and then theres also Tramadol and it's been known to help as well. I would give some other meds a chance instead of trying to go straight for the Narcotic pain meds.

I can't take allot of things due to other conditions I have because it just aggrivates some of my symptoms.

I really wanted to get through this with out pain medication, but now I'm to the point where I just want pain meds so I can function.I'm going to the pain management clinic on Monday and hopefully if anything they will find me something that helps.

I'm sorry to hear that your old doctors marke you as possibly having a pain pill addiction, but hopefully your pain management doctor is more understanding.
