Thank you all forr the advise! I am going to first find out about Ambien to see if that will work. I am also going to check in to Melatonin, that seems to be a favorite. I am currently taking my Savella at 6am and 6pm, my bed time is usually at aroung 9 to 9:30. I started off with 1 pill at 12.5mg then after 7 days I had worked up to 50mg in the am and the pm so 100mg a day. After getting SO little sleep this week my brain was muddled and I actually crashed and burned last night at 7:30 with out my night time medicine. I woke up at 11pm and took my medicine then and slept till 5 this morning which felt glorious.

I thank you all again for your great advise and kind words.

So glad you got a good nights sleep! It's my most persistent fibro symptom. But I've been sleeping well on melatonin. I've been afraid to try Ambien--can't afford any sleep-eating, -driving, -shopping incidents and I live alone 'cept for the cat.

Welcome to the group. It sounds like you have gotten some great advice about sleeping. I would add that it helps me to rub lavender lotion on my feet and legs at night to help me relax. It's very soothing.

Hi SMPerez,

I also had side effects in the beginning, but I have much less pain than before. Do you drink coffee or eat chocolate? If so, maybe you can cut back on that. It also sounds like you have a lot going on with working 50 hours a week and taking classes, have you considered could be a reason for insomnia? The load you carry can also prevent you from sleeping, in addition to medication. In working 50 hours a week and working on a degree, it sounds like you may be trying to stay awake a great part of the day...then trying to sleep. Crashing & burning would be natural under those condition, even without fibromyalgia. Constantly having things running through your mind will add to sleep deprivation and depression. Try getting more sun or a sunlamp. It will help you sleep and help with depression.

Nothing is either good or bad...but thinking makes it so.

Hi Smperez. I'm new to this group. I was diagnosed with fibro a little over a year ago, and it's a comfort to read that I'm not the only one going through what I've been feeling. Right now the insomnia is getting bad. I cant get to sleep til 3 or 4 (after going to bed at 10), and I only sleep four or five hours. I'm on Savella too; it has been a real help. My doctor gave me lidoderm patches for my achilles and other areas that get unbearable, and I tried it for the first time yesterday with good results. I just cant wrap myself in them and look like the Mummy though. Wishing the best to all who are dealing with this. Thanks for letting me chime in!

I had the same problem on Savella. The insomnia seemed to start after 2-3 weeks, so I stopped taking it.

I forgot earlier that I was going to tell you this. I haven't taken savella, but when I was on cymbalta it made me manic, and really interferred with sleep. That was five and again three years ago. ( If I were to try anything right now, I'ld never know about that side effect. Sleep isn't working at all.

We all have different reactions, and have to listen to what our body says about a med.

I have been on Savella for 8 days. When I got up to 100 mg a day I was very ill. My neurologist said that since I am small, 5'0 125, I probably couldn't take a full dose. I dropped it down to 1 pill a day in the morning with food. Now I am sick for 2-3 hours after taking it but by night, I feel so much better and get some sleep. Ask your DR if you are taking too much. Body size counts for dosage amounts.
