Lately my back has begun to feel like it's on fire along with the pain. This is something new in the last couple of months. Has anyone else experienced this?

I often get the burning pain in my shoulders and down into mid back. When it gets like that I usually need to take my drugs, heat up my bed buddy & go nite nite for a while. If that doesn't work, I usually can talk my hubby into letting me get a professional massage to help ease the pain.

I hope you can get some relief from your pain. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. You can also PM me anytime.

I've had this type burning since I was a teenager and until I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, was told it was all in my head. It is almost non stop burning between my shoulder blades and down my back. I also bruise very easily in the areas that burn and I have numerous fatty tumors and varicose veins in spots between my shoulder blades that have appeared in the past year to year and half. Anyone else have the other ailments in addition to the burning?

I have had my dr. look at this and ask what causes it and what to do... mostly I get there's not much they can do and that the varicose veins can be "stripped" but Medicare won't pay for it. I am trying to find out if that's true from a surgeon that is planning on removing some of the fatty tumors.

I get the burning too, mostly under my shoulder blade where my bra strap aggrivates it. If it's really bad, I use a lidocaine patch which turns the burning into itching. I was originally diagnosed with shingles, but it turned out to be fibro and lupus. Most days it's not too bad.

Do you all feel that heat helps with the burning sensations or does coolness help more? I have found that it depends on what areas of my body and what the weather conditions are as to which feels best. Cool towels though... not ice usually or it aggravates other conditions.

Anything cold makes me tense up regardless of the temp. Heat soothes the muscles, but seems to make the burning worse.

It seems that several things that help with the fibro makes the arthritis or other conditions worsen. Lately, I am having more swelling than I used to also. When my first major flare up occurred, my feet and legs swelled so badly, my feet began cracking open and my legs and feet both burned as if someone was holding torches against them. Since that time, I have almost constant burning in my back and shoulders and increasing burning in my upper legs which is now beginning to spread further down my legs. The swelling isn't as bad as far as cracking my skin now, but it makes the burning in my lower legs increase.

Do any of you have the swelling along with the burning sensations? One dr. told me the 2 weren't symptoms of the same illness but interacted together. I didn't understand exactly what he meant then and assume he meant one "fed" off the other when both occurred. I hate trying to remember all the drs. tell me because it is so easy to get confused as to what I should do for this problem instead of another. I'm already confused enough. *lol*
