Any suggestions on how to explain to people (especially family members)what my pain is like? I hear myself trying to convey how I feel but I just sound like a chronic 'whiner"

It is very hard to explain what we go through to someone who does not live in our bodies. Not everyone understands. I have found that talking with my fibro friends here on this site has helped me alot. As far as how to convey to your family and friends tell them how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally. You may want to keep a pain journal and let them read it. It may help.

Welcome to the site, you will love it here!

Welcome to the family alarge but wonderful one. We all have talked about how to get people to understand and realize that this is not something any one would want to live with. I suggested on another discussion that I had read that if you get the Snappy Clothespins and tell the non believer that you are doing an experiment and they need to put the clothespin on their finger and leave it there until they can't handle it anymore. Then when they take it off tell them that is what you live with always, never any relief, maybe they will understand. I would give it a try at least if it doesn't work it kept them quiet for a few minutes. Jean Welcome.
