Hi! I am new to the group. I am taking Lyrica 75 in the am and 75 in the PM. SCARED of weight gain- really don't feel too different. Maybe a little better. How long does it take? Dr. said he wants me to take this for 3 weeks at this dosage to see how I do. Any thoughts? I am scared to death to gain any weight. Has anyone NOT gained weight?

Hello Stanberry welcome, I don't know how long it takes Lyrica to work cuz it never did for me. I had severe migraine headaches for a week and that was enough for me. I have never heard of anyone who didn't gain weight. Check out the medication forum here there are alot of discussions on Lyrica in there. Good luck, looking forward to getting to know you.
May life always bring you laughter.

Welcome Stanberry, nice to have another new member. I have resisted taking the Lyrica cause I already have enough weight problems!

I have been on the Lyrica for about four or five days and still havn't noticed a difference and this is at 100mg! I have been feeling nauseated allot lately but my doctor seems to think it is the Effexor I'm on even though I only feel sick after taking the Lyrica two different times a day. I decided I don't want to feel nauseated today so I didn't take any of my meds. I don't have a doctor that listens very well. They like to take and compare people way to much and say things like, well this works for everyone else, or it doesn't effect anyone else this way. Seriously sometimes I want to say thats really great, but I'm me and not everyone else!

I have heard it can take up to a month to notice a difference, but some notice a difference right away.

Well, in the last 5 years my Dr. has had me on wellbutrin, effexor, and cymbalta. I guess I have gained about 20 pounds in the last 5 years, but I also turned 40 in 2006. I also teach school, so i am not TOO active. I went on the Lyrica Friday, so it has only been a few days. I actually do feel better, my sister even said she noticed on sunday! I asked my Dr. about weight gain...he said he has several on it and noone has complained about weight gain. The commercial SAYS it, so I am sure it is common....i just can't believe with all the meds out there, they can't find one to help people LOSE and feel better at the same time!

Welcome Stanberry,

It is good to have you in the group. I take Lyrica. As I have posted, I have gained weight. 40 pounds to be exact. I am not sure how much is from lyrica, how much is from inactivity, how much is from eating because of my depression. I can tell you that Lyrica works for me. I take 500mg a day and will be moving up to 600mg if I feel I need to. I can cope with the weight gain if it helps me feel better. I just figure it is a give and take situation and I vote for feeling good.

Yes Amen Sister! Thanks for the encouraging words. If this Lyrica does help me so much, maybe, like you, the weight will be a small price to pay for the relief! I only am taking a total of 150 a day for now. Do you happen to know if there may be less weight gain for those on a lower dosage?

I don't know. Some people aren't effected at all. They claim they don't know why it makes people gain wt. Maybe you will be lucky and get relief and not gain any wt.

gentle hugs from me,

There are people on our boards who have actually LOST weight on Lyrica. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them, but I still love the Lyrica. It does have it's side effects, but the benefits outweigh them for me. It took me awhile to get adjusted to it in the beginning - it made me very nauseous and dizzy. I had to keep taking it until the side effects settled down.

It's the only medication that really helps me.
