Hi and Welcome to our group ~~~

Fortunately, no, I don t have a problem sleeping at night but I know there are others here who do. I am sure one of them will be here before long and maybe offer you some advice.

Also, there is an Insomnia Forum that you might like to check out here at MDJ. I know you would gain valuable insight there .

Again, welcome to our group ~~~ Smile

i have a hard time sleeping and the only thing that i have found in all the 13 years i've been dealing with this is ambien cr or nyquil cough cause it doesn't have tylenol in it. Nothing else has ever worked for me, however there are others that have tried other things that have worked better. I stick with ambien cause there is no side affects and it doesn't make you drowsy in the morning.

I, as many here have a hard time sleeping. My docs say it is because of RA pain. I beleive them.

What I take is Ambien CR or Xanax.

I do not use these meds nightly because I know I will become tolerate to them.

My biggest problem with sleeping is when I am in great pain I have to take pain med which hypes me up and therefore causing me not to sleep.

I will not take sleeping meds close to pain meds. So all depending on what time I took pain med will determine what time I take sleep aide.

I think the Ambien CR is best because I have no drowsy side effects when I wake up whereas I usually do with Xanax which can last for hours after awakening.

I dream of the good old days where sleep came easily. Sigh.

Oh yes, I had good success with Lunesta, too.

However, one thing to keep in mind if using meds like Ambien or Lunesta is not to eat a fatty meal close to the time of taking med. By close I mean at least 4 hours.

A fatty meal WILL interfere with Lunesta or Ambien causing the med NOT to work.

Honey, I wish I had some good insight for you but I've had 5 hours of sleep for the past 3 days with no naps. I go through times like this and just let it roll. The only thing that can help, maybe, is meletonin or percogesic.

I do know that when I was taking meds at night, some of the pain pills like Ultram/Tramadol were making me wired.

Good luck. I hope you find something that helps and welcome to the group.

Welcome to our group, glad you found us and hope to get to know you better.

I still have trouble sleeping now and then but I do much better now with valium which was given to me for my muscle spasms. It's very weird cuz if I have to take one in the daytime, it does not make me tired at all but when I take them to sleep, 99% of the time, they knock me out after first relaxing me for about 1/2 hour.

Valium never worked for me mammy. I was taking them in low doses for spasms in my jaw when I had my bridgework put on. At first they worked then they stopped. Then I got my permanent bridgework which was much smaller than the temps and the spasms stopped.

I usually eat something small, maybe a piece of meat ( no carbs)

before going to sleep. My stomach being settled kinda helps me fall asleep.

RickDebra, there isn't a prescription pill known to man that will put me down. So over the years I've devised my own little plan.

I take 3 benadryl, 10mg melatonin and 400mg 5htp. Be aware that I'm taking double the recommended dose of 5htp, so I don't recommend that.

I also had a psychologist hypnotize me for sleep. I recorded it and made a loop out of it, editing out the wake up cues, so it will play all night.

All together it works like a dream for me. I don't spend hours and hours trying to go to sleep anymore. In fact, after I've taken my pills, about an hour or two later, I can hardly keep my eyes open! The hypnosis makes the quality of my sleep much better, too.

Sleepy hugs, Tina
