Oh yeah and if I get any more migraines (which happen regularly for me) at least one or two a month I have to take Motrin for them. What a bunch of crap! I want to slap somebody.
I can't do everything all the time, but I can do some things some of the time.

Have you taken Fioricet for migraines? They really work for me.

Also with the Vicodins, other pain pills, sometimes you get a rebound effect when taking them, like they stop working if you take too many.

With pain, I have found out from numerous surgeries and the FM, I have to make sure I take my next dose at exactly the right time so that I dont have any gaps, as the breakthrough pain starts up right away. The trick is to make sure you take them regularly.

I try to steer clear of pain meds whenever possible because for one, they really dont work well for me and two I do not want to become addicted. I also have my dr mix them up too. Sometimes I ask for percocet, sometimes vicodin, sometimes ultram.

Good luck ladies, hope you feel better soon

Thanks for the info Debbi. I needed to learn this perspective on the disease. I'm a newbie to group forums. It's very interesting that pain meds are not something I have to rely on. I wouldn't want to anyway. I need to hear more ways of dealing with FM through health, sleep, diet, exercise. I am very happy to hear your take on pain meds and now I'm starting to think I should try another route. Thanks

I really, really believe in positive thinking and movement even when it killed me, I walked to maintain that ability. When you are in pain, it is hard to move and that just makes the pain cycle worse for many. Lyrica has been a godsend. I am sleeping (which makes the pain more bearable and after sleeping hardly at all for 15 years, OMG!!!), My IBS is pracitically history (had to quit my last job over the IBS), the sugar roller coasters. I take 2 generic benadryl about an hour before bed for sleep. Years ago I had tried melatonin and I got no results. I just read that you need to avoid LIGHT. Any and all LIGHT to make it really work. Hydrotherapy, Chammomile tea and lavender are all part of my nightly ritual for sleep.........routines help and quality sleep make everything more bearable. Best wishes!

I really feel for you. I had a severe flare up yesterday with a muscle spasm in my back also. I use flexeril which is a muscle relaxant. Maybe you can try it. The tramadol helps a little better taken with tylenol, but I have 24/7 pain that never ends, so I really know how you feel. I also take clonazepam at night. Hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks for the info. Does the VA have pain management doctors on staff or do they refer you to civilian doctors?

I honestly don't know the answer to that, perhaps you can call the VA and ask them? I would assume that there are many issues a veteran would have to deal with which would require pain management. I've never dealt with the system, only friends of mine and heard their tales of woe.

It's really sad because so many veterans have chronic severe pain from was injuries. The VA has spent years handing out drugs and watching people become addicts because the VA didn't educate people about pain meds. Now they don't want to give anyone pain meds (as least it seems to me) because they've created so many addicts.
