"I have Crohn's Disease along with Fibromyalgia." (katiek)

MDJunction to me

"All I can say is that this has been the best place ever. It has been six to seven months since I joined, and I have learned so much. I now believe in myself and accept myself on a completely different level. The people on MDJunction has been so supportive and accepting that I have been able to adopt it into my personal life. That has reduced a lot of stress in my life. Thanks to all." (bunnyfly)

I would scream out loud if only it wouldn't make me feel worse. I've been awake since 2:00am with a headache and the worst muscular pain. I just can't tolerate this pain. I called my VA doc and she said she was giving me more tramadol. I don't know if any of you know this but tramadol and prozac are not a good combination. So when I said I needed something else I was treated like a junkie. They were so rude to me and kept offering me tramadol. Oh my gosh I think they're trying to kill me off. I am so tired of fighting to feel better by doing what I'm supposed to do. How do I find a doctor who does what they're supposed to do. I am not an addict. I am in a bad flare up and I just need something to get me through. I have no health insurance because the VA is supposed to provide for me. This is not providing. I am so insulted and hurt by how they treated me today. Now I'll probably have to go to the ER. They know me so well over there already. They know the VA medical system sucks so I end up in the ER at least once a month.

I'm sorry you're going through a flare and the VA isn't any help. They can be so difficult to deal with.

It might not help you right now, but see if there is a pain management doc you can be referred to.

This might come as no surprise to some, but if you're taking pain meds after you've already started hurting, they don't work as effectively (if they're going to work at all). Take those pain meds as soon as you feel a twinge of pain. You also need to occasionally wean off pain meds or switch to something different as they build up in the system and quit working. A pain mgmt. doc can help with that.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Does the VA have pain management doctors on staff or do they refer you to civilian doctors?

I can feel for you all. I have been taking Lortab for about 3months. then I go in and have surgery. I could not believe that they gave me Darvocet. They should have just told me to take an aspirin.

I don't even know what works because my doctor hasn't given me a chance to be pain free. I take Vicodin 5/500 which is the weakest form. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the pain is so terrible (like 2am) that I am literally laying in bed shaking uncontrollably. Usually it wakes my husband and he makes me go to the ER. There just isn't any reason for a doctor to allow someone with fibromyalgia to suffer so much.

I had been diagnosed 15 years ago and just recently started Lyrica which is working for me, but from what I have read from so many of you, it doesn't work for you all, which is of concern to me. Though it has helped me with about 80% of my pain when I am not 'flaring'........ I went through a flare about two months ago and it was really awful... Does the pain 'progress' over time?

I think my pain has been constant except in flare times. Is this 'normal' (whatever THAT means with FMS)

Anita, when I had my bout in Nov. I was in the ER and a doctor there gave me muscle relaxers because I was already in so much pain. I couldn't get the pain to let go because I was hurting to much. Is there anyway they might try that? Take as many hot baths as you can and try to relax every muscle you have. I am so sorry you are at this point. I have an older friend that was in Nam for two terms and the VA has him so messed up. And yet my Step Father gets great results from them. I think it depends on the hospital. Try to read a book or get involved in a movie to get your mind focused on something else. These are just little things I do to try and relax. I know they sound shallow when you are in that much pain but one must try everything. And see if your husband can give you a massage at some point in time. You probley have heard all of this before but when I am in pain I don't think....My husband does it for me. My thoughts are with you today, Kaze

My doctor called me today after I spent days in severe pain. She told me I'm on too many medications and that Motrin is the safest thing I can take. She does not want to ever give me pain meds again and suggested that research shows motrin is the best treatment for FM. I just love the VA (not)
