Hey! Has anyone experienced significant releif from a chiropracter? I've heard conflicting reviews. Can it hurt to try one? I'm not really looking for a "cure all" type thing, just some relief in pain in my neck, shoulders, upper back. I've asked my doctor several times if I should consider going to a chiropracter but he just shrugs it off.

I am scared it will make things worse, is it worth the try?

In my opinion, it is worth the try. It is important though to ask and make sure the chiro knows about fibro so they use the right approach. I have gone to one before that wasn't too informed and it ended up causing me more pain. However, the one I go to now is very knowledgeable about fibro and is very gentle with me. He's great ~ he always finds just the spot that needs some realignment and helps me to feel a little better, even if it's for a short time. Hope this helps.

Ditto here. I agree with coolmamma. It is worth the try. I have gone to chiros in the past and they have helped. The relief is short-lived but it makes you feel better for a while. A little relief for a little while is better than no relief at all, lol. Make sure you tell the chiro that you do have fibro or look in the yellow pages of the phone book. Some chiropractors advertise that they treat Fibromyalgia patients.

Good luck....

I had heard great things about chiropractors. I went to the one my pain doc. recomended. After 6 treatments (what my insurance would cover) I did not notice any change at all. The feeling of slamming and crunching made me really nervous, so maybe I wasn't relaxed enough. I, personally, get great relief from deep tissue massage but insurance won't pay and it's really expensive.

Just recently I went for deep tissue massage. Oh how great it felt. I walked out of there so relaxed. My body felt like jello....so loose. That evening however I was in so much pain, I couldn't stand it. The therapist never told me about drinking lots of water before and after. I never knew that until I read it on a post here. These forums are the greatest. You get more info here than you do from the doctor, therapist, etc.

Maybe we should all get together and write our own book on ways to deal with Fibro and things doctors don't tell us. It would probably be a best seller, lol.

I love the chiropracters!!!I can say they do not make me feel any worse.I usually get some relief from my constant headaches.I also have horrible neck and shoulder and upper back pain and it gives me some relief. It might not cure me but I'll take a little relief over none at all!I also LOVE the massages. What a relief they are.It may be for a short period but great while they last!So yes,I would definately go to the chiropracter!

Oh, I LOVE my Chiro. I am 38 years old and have been seeing him since I was 12 - YES 12 years old. I was hit by a drunken driver in a car from behind, and got severe whiplash. Started having problems with back/neck then and through the years have needed each and every year. YES, definately recommend!

GOOD LUCK

You all are great, thanks! I'm going to do it. I just have to find one now. I had good results with massage also, I wish I was still getting them.

My chiropractor knew I had Fibro before my doctor did. I would be on the table and he would apologize for the pain even before he touched me . The poor dear. He told me about fibro about 5 years ago and my doctor just diagnosed it last summer. I love having my back crunched. I am not too thrilled about getting my neck twisted/snapped but it feels so good after that I deal with it. The only part that really hurts when he works on me is my hips. I swear they scream just from him walking in the room. But I know that I will feel so much better that I let him hurt me all he can just to get me back in place. I go to him before a big Wal Mart Shopping. I could not do that kind of shopping with out seeing him. If I need to I stop and see him again on my way home. Mine is a hero!

Trudy

P.S. In case you missed it I love my chiropractor!
