Hey guys, I am really in trouble here I have gained 10 lbs in the last 3 months due to meds, being thoroughly exhausted all the time and quitting smoking. The combination of these, I am up to 210 lbs this AM and I am really down about this. I have tried every diet under the sun in years past, but would like to know from all of you what is the best diet for us who struggle like me lately. I know I need to put in exercise, and I am going to be incorporating that this week, as I bought 2 DVD's for exercising with your kids and I need to eat better but there are SO MANY diets out there my head is spinning on which one to start. Thanks.

Hi Cindy,

If you only gained 10 lbs from quitting smoking and meds, you're not doing so bad.

I gained about 20 from quitting, lost that, then gained 30 from Lyrica and working on that now. I have clothes in 4 different sizes. Don't beat yourself up over that 2 on the scale. I cut down on everything "white" in my diet and TRY to walk on the treadmill 3x week. I think you'll get alot of empathy on this topic!

Let's talk about weight -

I'm so fed up with my weight, this lyrica has me all swelled up & I'm not diabetic. Since being on it over a year now I have gained 30+ pounds

I haven't worked out either, but can't until they get some of this pain under control & the cymbalta withdrawal stops.

I really planned on joining the YMCA in January to start swimming - that is supposed to be good. I hope to get there soon.

I dont want to be a downer, but I had bad luck with swimming. The water was a bit too cold and I would tighten up as soon as I got in, then again when I got out. A hot tub would be wonderful. I used a sauna before and it was WONDERFUL.

Swimming IS a good idea, didn't even think of that. I am going to check out my local YMCA and see what they have and I know my son would love it too.

Thanks. My Dr. suggested Lyrica to me and I said NO WAY - I've read about too many people who have gained so much weight and I just went through that with the Neurontin. He totally understood - I was surprised that he is going to work with me on this very personal subject as he knows my weight issue is very delicate to me and I am trying so hard to get my body pain free or at least SOME pain gone so I can exercise and being so tired is a huge obstacle for me as well and I just plain do not feel like doing anything, including housework.

I have been frustrated about this as well. By the grace of God and determination, I was able to remove 30lbs last year. I walked about 2-3 miles 4-5x/week and had joined Weight Watchers. Keep in mind, I was feeling fairly good as far as the fibro goes. I had a few bad days here & there, but overall had the pain under control. Then fall came & whammy - pain flare.

After several months of having pain that didn't want to give up, my rheumy referred me to the pain dr. I am now on Lyrica and have gained 6lbs in the last 3 weeks. I am concerned that I am going to keep gaining. I am supposed to try increasing the Lyrica again this weekend but am concerned that the increase is mainly going to make me keep gaining.

I have been trying to get to the Y to walk the treadmill, but have seemed to catch the flu bug which has dragged me all the way down. Now my daughter has the flu as well. I don't want to give up...just need to find the energy to fight like I did last year. Maybe once the deep thaw arrives & I can walk outside that will make a difference?

Lyrica made me gain weight too. I feel your pain, I'm right with you. I can't really exercise, so it's very frustrating. I try to eat lots of fruits and veggies, whole wheat carbs and low fat protein. I haven't really found a "diet plan" that works for me. I wish you luck!

I've gained 70+ pounds from my meds and stuff. I'm not on Lyrica, and with 70+ I refuse to go on it. I've tried everything to lose, and can't. I also have rheumatoid arthur so the Docs said no excercise because it makes me to where I can't walk. I had gotten an eliptical machine from Wal-Mart but I'd be on it a minute and have to get off, and barely could get off my knees would hurt so bad. Then I was really wiped out.

I've stopped falling around quite as bad. My problem right now is I can't seem to maneeuver AROUND things, or stop before I run into someone or something, which can be quite embarrassing. I'll walk to the kitchen for a drink and run into the sink counter and I can tell by how my body feels it wanted to keep on going. LOL

I'll be watching this thread closely to see what others say on losing weight. VERY INTERESTED!!

Pamela {please}

I wish tons of love and hugs!

Okay, you're all gonna think I've totally lost my mind here...

(if you already haven't that is!)

I went from over 250 pounds to ALMOST 150, very fast!

Probably wasn't the healthiest thing to do, but I did it anyhow!

I don't take any meds that effect my weight in any way so I don't have to worry about that.

I use a couple of products and diet HARDCORE!!

If anyone wants to know more about the products, please send me a pm.

I'd be happy to share!!

Personally, I used the Atkin's Diet...I weighed in over 200, (at 5'3" tall) went on the diet and limited my soda intake to 1 bottle of Mt. Dew a day and the rest was water (for liquids)...other than that, I ate meat, eggs, and cheese (nothing breaded) in any way I could possibly think of combining those 3 (for food)...lol...within 5 weeks, I managed to drop 50 lbs.

My exercise program consisted of dancing. That was it..lol. No fancy gym or workout equipment. I just did the line dancing thing in my kitchen. I found the dance instructions online, printed them off, taught myself the dance..and by doing this, it would sometimes take an hour to learn a single dance (or longer), I had a blast loosing weight.

I was so amazed...lol...I managed to use that diet to drop a total of 78lbs. in less than 4 months (after the first month, I started drinking more soda..lol..which ultimately slowed my weight loss).

During the first 5 weeks, I noticed a huge increase in my energy levels due to the weight dropping off. I slept better, had less pain, less stress, better self-esteem, etc etc...lol.

Now, that was a few years back (4 to be exact) and when I relocated to South Dakota I had to get a new doctor. This doc. put me on Lyrica. (sigh) I was grateful for the pain relief, however, I've gained over 50 lbs. in under 6 months. So, I took myself off the meds and I simply suffer in pain on a daily basis now..lol.

I'm seriously considering returning to the Atkin's Diet to help me drop the weight the meds. packed on...lol...since I'm not taking any meds. right now (other than my insulin shots). I don't know of anyone who has actually done this diet that has not lost weight and managed to keep it off (providing the meds are not counter-productive to the diet).

Good luck to ya'll and please, remember to be safe when choosing a diet program.

Bless you,

Ms. Jessie
