Hi, I have been recently DN with fm although I have been suffering with the symtoms for a long time. The doctors have me on Robaxin and trazadone. They dont work, the Robaxin seems to help minimally with muscle tightness and the spasms have decreased but not enough to say the meds are working. This is my problem, I cant find a doctor whom will treat this with anything other than these meds. They did try Tramadol but that is the worst med. I have ever come across. It did nothing, my dovtor keeps saying take Advil for the pain...yeah right! I homeschool three teenagers and I have t be able to get out of bed everyday and function properly however I just cant seem to do that with the meds I am on. I have no past addiction issues and I dont even drink, how did you guys get your doctors to prescribe something more than theses meds?I sincerly need help here, my husband works 60 hours a week to come home and make dinner because I just cant move, my hips, legs and neck seem to be the problem everyday, of course there are other parts as well but they seem to be the worst, have you guys found anything you can do to make this easier? I live in Springfield Ma and have considered going to a pain management Dr. but I am not sure it will be any different from what I am experiencing nowDoes anybody know of a good Dr. in this area who isn't afraid of Opiates? Please I am desperate need of help, any info you can give me would be great.Thank you

Hi,

I know how you feel. I suffered for years till I found a Rhumatoid Arthritus Doctor who specializes in treating Fibromyalgia. She prescribed 400mg Neurontin four times a day, Effexor 100mg a day, and Flexeril 10 mg at bedtime. These drugs are all pretty safe. The Flexeril is a childs dose and completely non addicitve.

Within the first month I went from constant pain and laying in bed most days and not sleeping because of the pain at night to sleeping every night waking up alert, not depressed that I have this incurable desease that I have passed to 2 of my 3 daughters and enough energy most days to achieve most of my chores, and my pain level went from a 9 each day to about a 4. I tried to stop my meds once and within 24 hours remembered what life was like without them. I got right back on the meds.

I have been on this combination for around 7 years and haven't had to increase any of the drugs. I also agree that tramidal is aughful.

Hope this helps

Thank You for sharing your story , it gives me some hope that I will soon beable to live s productive life. I went to the Dr.s friday and they put me on neurotin 100mg 3 times a day, along with Klonipin 1mg at bedtime, along with the robaxin. However he said he doesnt recommend many of his patients to go to a pain clnic but he really feels that it is time for me to go. I dont know anything about pain clinics is there anything you can share with me?Is it even worth going? Some things I have read said don't bother but a few other's say they have had good luck with it.Did you go to one and what was you experience? Right now I get p do the house work an teach the kids and buy the end of the day I am wiped for at least the next 2 days, there has to be something to help with that. Okay I know I have been long winded , I just hve sooo many questions that no Doctor around here I have seen o far has answers for and honestlt they look at me like I am a hypocondriact, I wish my Dr. could switch places with me for one day. AnywAY Thank for your input and if any one has anything else to add I would appriciate it...

10myne,

My pain is at a 9 everyday, actully sitting here at the computer makes it worse so I have to get up and move around which of course hurts as well. My hips, lower back , neck and head seem to be the worst so sitting down or laying down just doesnt work. Maybe I need to talk with the doctor about increasing the dose of the neurotin,I m taking trazadone with I am sure you know is an anti- depresent and that just doesnt work, he has me taking it once a day at bedtime.Honestly I dont take it most of the time because there is no relief of anything from it. It is nice to hear you found a combination of drugs that has helped bring your pain down to a 4. Do you do any exercises, low arobic, water exercises? I dont I am half the time wiped out from making lunch for the kids..I walked a mile the other day came home and wanted to jump off the nearest cliff, I was out of commisssion for 2 days. But the doctor said it would help with the pain, HE WAS WRONG!

Anyhow thank you for taking an interest and sharing you story, I have to get up and move again, I feet are dumb Good luck and God Bless

Hi Jumptolife,

Antidepressants have to be taken everyday like clockwork. They only work if you take them religously. They can also cause other problems when not taken daily. So take them regular or drop them altogether. I know it took about a month to notice the difference but the antiderpessants help me alot.

Didn't mean to harp,

Hi Myne -

I have been taking the trzadone for about 2 months, they just increased it from 50 mg to 100mg about a month ago and it just doesnt work, I dont know If I need a longer time or what? However the doctor decided to take me off the neurontin because I was running into things, my language was slurred, my husband thought I was having a stroke, but the doctor said that they were side effects to the neurontin. He sid it was apparent I couldnt take it, that we would have to find soething different. Now I took Zoloft for 2 years and was taking 100mg 3 times a day and that did nothing, I actually felt suicidal on that. I gues its just going to be trying on thing after another until we find one that works

Your not harpping I am looking for input into a situation I just dont understand and I thank you for taking te time to adddress this with me.

Hello, I'm new, have no idea what is going on with me. I'm the one who asked if anyone had read the book "what your doctor may not tell you about fibromyalgia. Someone please tell me if they've read this book. I was told my personal physician, RA that the ailments I would complain about was fibromyalgia. I'd heard about here and there. The symptoms are very real and I'd like to feel like myself. I can even tolerate the pains, but the fatigue is what kills me and my social life. please get back to me. thanks

Hey there. You know, I have to laugh at doctors that precribe Trazadone because the last one that did was basically saying... you're depressed therefore let's just treat the depression... while disguising it as a treatment for sleep disorder.

I also have had zero success with Trazadone and unfortunately have only been successful with the big no no drugs like Methadone or Kadian. But I've read several posts and emails that Lyrica has worked rather well for them and is non-narcotic.

I took nuerontin for about a year, 600mg, 3x a day... (i know) I loved the stuff. NOW, I take 75.mg 2x of Lyrica. It is so much better! It has truly changed my life. It is really hard for me to get, I have to fight like mad every 6 months with my insurance co. And darvocet, is also a staple.. and soma...

i dislike pain meds.. i mean i dislike the way pain meds make me feel, so with the lyrica, i have been able to do without the major ones.

i sure hope you feel better. my little girl says, i am paying for a good day... i think someone lost the books, surely we have accumulated at least a year, yeah?
