Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in June 2007 after 3 years of going to dr. after dr. (most of who told me I was crazy). I have retreated into my own world because I can't explain to anyone what exactly this is--they think that it is something that will go away. I have more bad days than good as I still have to work and my job involves heavy lifting. I currently take 90 mg.Cynbalta daily which helps a little with the pain and keeps me sane. I am 46 years old and life seems pretty depressing somedays. Any tips to keeping your sanity as a busy working mom with 2 very busy boys?

Hi, Goldie...

Welcome to the forum! You're going to find a lot of help and support here, just like I did! And as everyone else will tell you, post a lot so we can get to know you. I'll add read whenever you can because just knowing that others are going through the same types of things DOES help!

Now...my best piece of advice is pretty simplistic, and maybe nothing you want to hear, but it's what helped me accept that my life was just going to be 'this way' from now on.

And I made that decision many years before the pain had a name. It hit me when I was 19 or 20 and I was 45 or 46 before it was ever diagnosed. I gave up on doctors in my early 20's.

Basically it was that I could be severely depressed forever-and that was the catalyst for making my choice-or I could resign myself to the way it was going to be and make the best of it.

Once the decision was made, I just got on with my life and ignored the pain well enough that most people never knew there was anything wrong with me, unless I was having a particularly bad flare.

This kind of thing might not work for you. But it's what's gotten me through the past 2+ decades. Obviously there's nothing I can do about the pain, only my reaction to it.

Goldie, hello and welcome to our group of Mighty Fibromites!

I'm very fortunate that my son was grown and married off before I got fm! Trust me, I'm most thankful for that Smile

As for tips, I've recently begun taking some natural supplements which seem to have helped me to a great degree. I'm feeling more and more every day like I have a life again.

I firmly believe that it helps to be on this site with our fellow sufferers! So I encourage you to visit as often as you can, and post, post post! It's the best way to get as much out of the group as possible and I can almost guarantee you, you'll make some amazing friends in the process!

It's a pleasure to meet you and I'm looking forward to getting to know you!

Hugs,

Tina

Hi Goldie,

Welcome.... I too am a single mom . I have 3 daughters at home 16,14, and 7. My 16 yr. is bipolar and my 14 yr. is bipolar and she also has oppositional defiance disorder. I work full time + trying to make ends meet and the kids give me a run for my money LOL. I probably had an obset on fibro alot longer as I have pretty much always had pain issues but it wasn't until my car accident n 2006 that it clearly became evident.... after nine million amune-disorder test etc... the doc finnaly said it was fm. Sothis is where I am now and it hasn't been an easy row to hoe at all. I just keep pushing through the pain to do what I need to do. The fatigue really gets me down and I have had depression issues all my life. Fibro sucks that is for sure... but you have come to the right place!! Here is the best therepy I have ever foundSmile And beter than some of the meds tooWink

and this too shall pass??!!
