Hi everyone. I am here hopeing to find help on better understanding my fibro and hopefuly learning how to communicate my needs to my doctors withought sounding lazy or like a drug addict. I am also a bit over weight and am getting tired of having doctors tell me I am in pain because I need to loose weight. I have never been what you would call a small guy. When I try to exercise, withion a day or two of walking and or stretching the way they want me to I end up in so much pain that even the so-called high power medicine they give me ends up not helping at all and I will end up in bed for two to three days at a time. I am 33 and have been fighting with this illness for almost 18 years.

I see a pain management doc. but I dont feel that he truly understands my problems. I am just frustrated. I try to work through the pain but when I force myself to far I end up sick.

I just dont know what to do or how to help someone who isnt inside my body understand the amount of pain I am in .

I eat healthy and I am not an overeater. I never have been. All the diet and so called health tips that I have gotten over the years just dont seem to make a difference.

I watched this illness slowly drain away my mothers will to live. At the age of 54 she just went to sleep one day and didnt wake up. She had been so tired for so long. She didnt commit suicide, she just lost the will to fight.

Sorry for rambling It just all kinda came out.

I'm an Advocate

Tafoya, I'm happy to meet you. You came to the right place, certainly. If nothing else, we have a lot of love and encouragement to give.

I completely understand everything you're saying. Finding the right doctor is vitally important. I just got a new one and I'm very happy with him. He totally gets that I can't exercise. He said even pt, if it's not done properly, will do much more harm than good with fibro.

I have weight issues, too. He told me to not worry about that right now. He wants me to try and eat healthier, but not worry about the weight.

He also wanted me to try lyrica. He felt that the benefits may outweigh the weight gain that everyone seems to suffer on it. We'll see, I'm only on day 2.

The best thing that he gave me, and the thing I would like to pass onto you, is that there is hope. There really is. Managing and even beating fibro can be done, but it takes a lot of time, determination and commitment. I look at it this way, what else have we got to do?!

I'm sorrier than words can say about your mom. That's much to young to die.

Something else that my doctor recommended I'm going to share with you. It's a book, called "On Death and Dying." It's not just about dealing with death, it helps us with the grief we need to deal with over the lives and things that we've lost due to fibro.

You're not rambling. You've come to exactly the right place to let it out. I sense that you haven't done much of that. I think that's one reason that men with fm suffer a lot more than women, actually! Men tend to keep things inside, and yes, they tend to "work through the pain." That's just not always possible.

Anyway, now you're one of us, The Mighty Fibromites! It won't get you a table at a good restaurant, but it will help you find the silver linings, give you some laughs, and you'll probably make some good friends along the way.

So, I invite you to post away so we can get to know you. There's also a men's group for fibro. Please feel free to be as active as you like in both groups.

Welcome, my friend.

Hugs,

Tina

Hello and Welcome Tafoya

Your story sounds all to familiar. I think we have all worried about sounding like drug addicts or lazy to our doctors. And probably because they are so good at making us feel that way, when they don't believe us. A good understanding doctor is so important.

We all need exercise. It's not like we don't want to. Or who wants to be overweight? No one. That one really gets under my skin. Because it's hard enough just to manage a day. Walking is so difficult for me. And increases my pain so much. That the thought of exercise, I scoff at. And if I could, I would certainly start with cleaning my house better and getting normal stuff done.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I can't tell you how much. That saddens me so much to hear that she suffered this horrible condition. And what she must have felt like.

You've come to the right place. We all care here and are going through this thing too. It really helps a lot to come here and meet people that are dealing with the same things. We are all alike and we are all different, if that makes any sense to you. It is definitely trial and error with this fibro. What works for one, may not work for another. But we keep trying until we find the solution that works best for us.

We use meds, supplements, natural methods, laughter and any thing we can to cope with this. Just talking and relating can bring a world of peace to us.

I'm so glad to meet you. I hope to see you posting so we can get to know you. Ask as many questions as you like. Some one here will be able to relate.

A big HELLO and a warm WELCOME
