My name is Liz or Lizard. I am only 17; I have had FMS/CFS since I was 15. I had to drop out of high school because of my sickness. I don’t have a lot of friends that understand what I am going through, and I find myself just needing someone to talk to. I have read all the books on how to feel better, I have tried to change, but I fail continually, its getting very frustrating to be so weak. In case you didn’t notice my main picture is a shot from Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I have this picture up because Buffy is someone I find strong. Not because she has supernatural powers, but because she deals with very hard life choices everyday and she continues on. She gets knocked down but gets back up and fights. I know it’s a fanatic thing to say, but I want to be like her. I want that inner strength that no matter how your problems come at you, you will be able to face them. I want to fight. Please, if you have the time to email me or give me a few tips on how to be strong when I feel so weak, I would appreciate every word. Thank you – Lizard ^.^

Liz, Welcome to the site! I think you have already shown strength. You show strength by reaching out for something you need. You are being a self-advocate. When dealing with fm, we all need to be able to be outspoken about what we need. Don't worry ~ we are here for you when you need us. Everyone here is very supportive so feel free to vent, cry, be silly, ask questions, etc. We are here for the rollercoaster ride so sit back, relax, and post away. We are here for the long haul.

Hope you find some peace in gaining some new friends. These are some of the best friends I have ever met!

Hi Liz & Welcome!

This is a terrific group, I have been here for a little over a month, and found it to be really supportive, and a place with tons of information for me. You at 17 have had Fibro longer than I have and I am 33. Not sure what tips I can give you on being strong, I'm pretty sure you should be the one giving me the tips!

I think you have already shown tremendous strength already...I just keep trying to live my life as I did before I was diagnosed, and live through the pain...some days it's not easy and I am tired and feel weak, some days I feel less pain...but I'm just not ready to give in yet I guess. I know one day it will catch up with me...

I'm sure some of the other fibromites on here with more experience than I will have more words of wisdom, so far I think everyone I have met on here has shown great strength..I think you have to, to live with this dissorder!

I hope you like it here...feel free tp PM me anytime!

Hey Lizard!! Welcome to the group!

To even ADMIT that you ARE sick, weak and tired is a VERY GREAT start!

Denial is a big part of Fibro...so you're on your way!

All I can say (that Beachbum and coolmamma already didn't) is that...

It's not really 'getting stronger'. To me...it's more like learning how to DEAL with it and live your life around it and as best you can!

That doesn't mean that you're not gonna have pain free days...because you will! You'll have good days and bad days. Then there's the AWESOME days and the terrible ones! The worst part being that you don't know which day is gonna come when!

So, I guess my FIRST suggestion to you is...when you have those AWESOME days...grab them and do everything you can with them! Of course, you don't wanna over-do it...or you'll pay! But you already know this!

You've found an AWESOME group of friends here! Stick with us...the support here is unbelievable!!

Feel free to pm me anytime! I'm here for YOU and here for ME!!

Liz, I can't imagine how difficul this is for you. I have a daughter your age. Her name is Claire. She will graduate from a private catholic high school this May. I am sorry to hear that you had to drop out of high school becuase of your pain. Was there no way they could help you though home school, or are you just planning on getting your GED. Either way I'm sure you will make a good decision. You are right Buffy is a strong character. She doesn't let anything or anyone hold her back. The actress who plays her plays alot of strong character rolls. I don't know if you know it. but she used to play Erica Caines daughter on One Life To Live---a very long time ago.

FMS is difficult to live with. This forum is a good place to talk and vent and ask questions. If I can help you, I would like to. PM me or add me to your friends list if you want. You might find it interesting or funny to find out what my kids are up to. They are Tiffini 26, Aron 24, Laura 23, Claire 17, Brianna 17, and Spencer 16. I also have a grandson names Silas who is 4 months. His mother is Laura. They are pretty good kids, but when they make a mistake it is usually a big one.

Hi Liz,

Welcome. This is a great place to be. You may talk about whatever your heart desires. There is help only post away. There is conversation that close also. For fun things try the off topic forum.
