Hi, Just wondered if anyone else on the planet experiences the same problem as me as every time I go to the doctor they look at me as if I've gor horns growing out my head! I've had back problems for years which involves the muscles up my back, shoulders and neck tightening up and pulling my back out of place and giving me horrible tension headaches, but for the last 2 yrs now I've been experiencing terrible muscle spasms from the middle of my back and going round and across my diaphram muscle and up and down my abdominal muscle. It usually starts at the middle of my back, but sometimes starts with discomfort in between my ribcage and the muscles gradually get tighter + start to spasm. I get to the point where my skin starts to get clammy and I sometimes vomit. I usually end up on my hands and knees as I don't know what to do with myself the pain is so bad and can't breath properly. The only thing that seems to calm it down for a short time is pummeling my back muscles and taking a valium, but even at that it can take a while to calm it down completely. It can wake me up in the middle of the night or it can start during the day. It also seems to upset my IBS (I sound like a hypochondriac don't I? ) I am really frustrated as no-one seems to know what is causing it. I have just started taking Methocarbamol to relax the muscles but haven't been taking it long enough yet to know if it works. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

Thanks

Not much of a consulation but I know exactly whay youre going through. When this first started happening, they diagnosed me with shingles and sent me for trigger point injections (which do help a bit for neck and trap. muscles)but did nothing for what they called Shingles. I also have lidocaine patches which do work if the muscle knots are close to the surface. Almost two years and a dozen Drs later, it turns out I have Lupus, fibro. & Raynaulds. Even though I do have a rhumatologist I'm seeing now, I'm having trouble trusting her after my Lyrica trouble.

It sounds like you need to see your rheumy again. I think you need a muscle relaxant. Myofascial pain syndrome can do exactly what you describe. Sorry but that often goes with having the fibro.
I have dystonia, neuropathy, gerd, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel and other ailments. I enjoy embroidery, music, and reading my Bible and Christian books. I love to bake. I try to be very supportive and positive.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Mine are in my neck and shoulders and it is horrible. I can definately see if the spasms are in the middle of your back how it can reach around to affect your stomach. Just the pain alone is enough to make you sick. I don't know what to suggest since I know valium is the strongest muscle relaxer they make. Have you tried massage therepy or going to a pain clinic? That would be my suggestion. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. Oh,and as for your doctor, kick him in the nads and ask him if that hurts,if he CAN say yes, tell him that is only half the pain you feel everyday, maybe he'll understand then!!I hate unsympathetic doctors, could ya tell?

Thanks for your reply singingangel! Not sure what Myofascial pain syndrome is, but I'm gonna look it up! Asked my chiropractor yesterday if he thought I could have Fibromyalgia as I've never been diagnosed with it, and he was really patronising about it, I wanted to give him a slap Apparently if I eat + exercise properly and keep a good mental disposition I wouldn't have any of these symptoms! What a prat!Soooo good to hear from you, hope you have a grrrreat day!

Hi Kychick, sooo good to hear from you!Have you tried Bowen therapy for your neck and shoulders? I've tried all sorts of therapy but the only one that I feel gives relief the longest is Bowen, and in conjunction with that using a tens machine. It doesn't take it away obviously but it helps I was just telling singingangel that I asked my chiropractor yesterday if he thought I could have Fibromyalgia as I've never been diagnosed with it, and he told me that if I eat + exercise properly + keep a good mental disposition that I wouldnt have any of these symptoms! The mental disposition I was in he's lucky he's alive!!!! Why are doctors, chiros etc so annoying, they don't have a clue Hope your neck and shoulders are ok today sweetie, have a fab day!!!
