I have cervical DDD and I have had the duo-discectomy w/fusion,but usually when i over do things my pain is in my shoulder blades and radiated under the right shoulder blade the most. I have had times where my head felt so heavy that I didn't think my neck would support it. This pain is very different. Both sides of my neck and the base and along the top of the shoulders is really sore.It is really hard to even move my neck because it hurts so bad. It almost feels likd muscles that have been worked out hard, but I haven't done nothing. This is the first time I have ever felt this pain except after my surgery. I don't know if it's s fibro thing,a DDD with muscles spasms or if something new has happened. The latter being my biggerst fear. I talk about it to the family but they just look at me lide what do you want me to do about it. I have even broke down and wore my neck brace(which I hate with a passion)hoping I would get some relief. I can't lay,or sit or stand or nothing. I have taken my pain meds regularly with the muscle relaxers and tried heat and ice plus hot baths with gentle stretching. I don't know what else to do. Any ideas???

I feel this way sometimes but I have three bulging disc in my neck too so I dont know if its from that or the fibro??? Have you tried a neck pillow when you watch tv sometimes the way you position your neck in the smallest ways can make it hurt I even slept with my neck pillow and woke up feeling great. You can even use it while driving because for some reason I drive with my nose in the air can't ever get a convertable because if it rained I'd drowned. But just little things like the pillow help some. But you should see your dr again if the pain is not tolerable for along time because something else may be wrong and its always best to be safe than sorry.HUGS

After my surgery,a year later I was still in pain so my doc did a full series of mri's. I have bulging discs with stenosis in the cervical area, bulging discs also in the thoracic and lumbar areas. The surgery created a domino effect with the discs. My x-ray's are horrible. I don't want another surgery. All they could do for me would be to fuse the entire cervical area and I would not be able to move my neck at all.I am finding that every surgery seems to cause something worse later. I have tried chiropractic, and like it for the middle and lower back, but he cant move my neck at all. And I have this fear that if he could he might over do it and I would end up in a chair,I could be wrong but it scares me all the same. I have had several pillows, are you talking about the horseshore looking ones with stuff in them that make them squishy?

what kind of weather r u having if its extremely cold ur going to probably be in extreme pain, at least that's what I'm noticing. i cant imagine being in places where its majorly below 0 , oh no, i cry at 40*. I feel wimpy but i guess its OK y'all love me, right? right? No all joking aside it may just b the weather. This morning i cried, i had the worst pain that i have ever had, i couldn't get out of bed, it hurt so bad i almost couldn't take it. at 50 yrs old, i cried like a big baby, when i was done crying, (25 minutes later) i realized, my mother had come in and asked me to try an ibuprofen 800mg just to see how it would react, guess what, i did and u know the pain subsided enough for me to get out of bed and feel as bad as i normally feel, it was tolerable. Thank You Mom and God. I'm not telling u to take ibuprofen 800 but 4 me this morning , it worked.

yeah its the horse shoe thing. I guess it doesnt beat drugs LOL but its all I can tolerate. I wish I could stomach the medicines if I could that would be great. It's funny because my main complaint is the dizziness and tiredness. I really can tolerate the pain without these other two conditions I think. But then all the medicine they give me says may cause dizziness or drowsiness. So Im back to square one using my horeshoe pillow, exercising, vitamins with nothing to look forward to but maybe another weird feeling day. I wish I was normal again : (

Myofascial release massage really helped me once when I couldn't even move my head. My muscles in my neck and shoulders were completely froze up. It hurt so much, I went to see my doctor and he sent me to a physical thearist. I wrote about this in another post but I'll repeat it because it helped me and it might help you guys. every few years I have the same problem and I always try to find someone who knows how todo this massage. it's difficutl to find someone who is good at it but if you ever do its all worth it. There is a man in Tupelo MS. that is wonderful. He helped me more than anything else ever has. I may have to make the drive again. I found someone in Jackson Ms. but he got tooo friendly with me and made me feel very uncomfortable. this was several years ago, now, I might not mind it so much lol. I sorry your having so much pain. I know how difficult it is to try to live a life when you can't even think properly because of the pain. It will get better, it has to.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Boy I can relate to these posts~ I have anterior cervical disk surgery w/fusion, 2 levels, last June. I still have pain in my neck muscles. I also have CMP in that area, so I'm pretty screwed. I was feeling kinda good on Saturday and went about doing all of the normal things, groceries, cleaning, visiting mom, more shopping. By Saturday evening I felt like a worked out really hard, or just moved from one apartment to another. You know that feeling when your whole body hurts. Anyway, by Sunday I couldn't move my neck and the pain went all the way down the left side of my back even if I turned a little bit. I tried alot of heat last night. Didn't sleep well at all because of the pain and discomfort. It's a little better today, but I'm at work now and getting to pop a couple of pills to get through. It scares me when I read about the domino effect of this surgery. I knew before the surgery, but really didn't have any choice but to have it. It's all such a bummer.... that's my nice way of saying it

I also have cervical DDD. I have had the bulging disc also in c4-c5 area. If you don't have a neck supporting pillow, you can roll up a hand towel and put it inside of your pillowcase at the bottom to fit the curvurature of your neck, also, I am a Dental Hygienist and work my muscles on the front of my neck, so I lie on the bed sometimes too and hang my head off of the end and then use my hand to support myself to get back up, I don't work in physical therapy, but was taught this by someone who does, it helps alot for me. I use therabands too, they help to loosen up the muscles when they are just unbearable, Hope this can help you some.

I know the neck pain is the worst.

Jen
